Wild Onyx Clownfish. Take 3

Total copper concentration is different from free copper concentration. What are you measuring?
The level of interest is the concentration of free copper ions. They need to be between 0.15 to 0.20 mg/l (roughly the same as ppm).

I haven't posted updates because I was out of town for several days. i was worried that the clown wasn't going to make it till I got back but she's doing ok. The clown has not received any formalin dips since the first one three days ago. It has not eaten anything yet. Hopefully that will change soon. Here's a pic of her a few mins ago. I might do a video as well.

That's a nice one!

I only give mine a single formalin dip (20 drops per gallon) before they go into quarantine. I don't give them any further treatment after that unless they show symptoms of disease or infection.
With these guys less is more.

That's a good way of doing it. Also the sooner they can be taken out of a fish stores system the better their chances of survival.

My last 2 pairs were quite literally just off the plane. They arrived at the importer straight from the Solomons the night before.

i spoke to a man who is responsible for livestock sales for one of the major online coral retailers. The reason Solomon clowns are harder to keep initially is shipping. Apparently they go through Fiji and/or Australia before they come to the United States instead of coming direct. That explains the stress and disease factors.

I know, but that isn't the main reason.
Steve Robinson from Baja Reef explained it to me.
First there is the bagging and boxing. That alone may take half a day. So some fish have already spent several hours in the bag before they even leave the facility. Then there is the wait for the government paperwork (local and US). Nothing can move before that arrives.
The next issue is the unpunctuality of the local airlines. Sometimes the boxes may sit for hours baking in the sun at the airport or they miss the connection flight in Australia or Fiji.
As soon as they made it there the worst is over, but there is still the half day flight to LA or San Francisco.

BTW my new ones came through Melbourne.

Steve also told me that he was involved in the collecting station in PNG and that the reason they had to close was the fact that they closed the nearby airport.

The clown appears to be in slightly better condition since the light turned off. Her pelvic fins aren't clamped like they were just a few hours ago. Without her eating this stuff is pretty much meaningless but I hope she is turning the corner here.

I feel the longer they spend in wholesale and dealer systems the more health problems they have. The pairs we got from Baja Reef spent less than a day there and so far no problems.

She's sending me mixed signals.I found the clown laying on her side looking stressed and pretty much gone. Then she started swimming. She looks weak and swims very slow and unbalanced.

Clowns are so picky, when I had mine in qt all they would eat for the longest time was SA dry hatchery diet. All of them seem to like that.
