Wild Onyx Clownfish. Take 3

I saw a "Stubby" wild true percula from Solomons today

Oh no! Say it ain't so.

Yeah. And if you are already stunned by percula (or ocellaris) doing it wait until you hear clarkii or other large clowns doing it - it's loud!

Yes, I just read some articles why clowns do it and it all made sense. I broke up my onyx pair and paired up the wild one with a Picasso clown. The sounds were just a hierarchy thing.

I broke up the wild and tank raised onyx pair because I didn't see much bonding happening. So I paired up the wild Onyx with a Picasso clown. The tank raised onyx is currently in the sump and will be paired up with the new wild Onyx currently in QT.

I can't help it but to me all these designer clowns look like deformed freaks.

I wouldn't have broken up a nice wild onyx pair for a designer clown.

I wouldn't either but my Onyx pair was only half wild because the smaller clown is tank raised. I purchased him to infuse as much black as possible as some of the wild Onyx clowns are known to produce many regular true perculas. Speaking of that, what did the offsprings of your Onyx clowns look like? Were they all Onyx or mostly regular true perculas.

I started in the hobby with a pair of juvenile Semi-Picasso clowns from ORA and subsequently had other designer clowns. So not only am I used to them but I am actually very fond of good quality designer clowns. And if I can improve their quality by mixing designer clowns with wild caught onyx then I am doing something good and contributing. Luckily I don't plan on making a living out of breeding clowns so I will have the luxury of massive culling of deformed fish to ensure that only the best make it out to the public.

Eric, are you going to put the gigs in with those two?

Those gigs died before I could execute your patented treatment method unfortunately. Came home and they were inside out, one of them already decomposing. It's the second time I had a carpet anemone go down very quickly, first one being a blue Haddoni.

man sorry to hear, im sure you will come across more. You seem to know were to find them :)

The new wild Onyx is doing fantastic. It started to eat Hikari marine pellets today.
This is her and below is a picture of her future mate, the tank raised Onyx clown currently residing in the sump but not for too long.

Thanks, it was pretty sad to lose them in just one day. Hopefully better luck next time. Do you still have your purple Malus? I really liked the one I saw for sale today.

Negative on the purple malu's. When I got my gig's I wanted no chance of a negative interaction between anemone species.
