Wild Onyx Clownfish. Take 3

Walked into LFS yesterday and saw a small wild Onyx true perc. He looks just like the true pair of Onyx clowns I had before that came from Quality Marine. First pic at LFS. Second pic in his new home. He's fairly small and I'll try to pick up another wild Onyx clown to pair him up with. He's eating well and has shown a very curious personality thus far.

Time for big updates. I broke up my latest pair of clowns to pair up the male with a smaller wild onyx clown pictured in April 15 post.
The breeding male that was all super black is now a female. I noticed that about 3 months after I paired up the male with a smaller clown, his black color started to fade especially near his dorsal fin. I assume it is now a she. It is highly likely that color fading is related to sex change because now she does not have to flash and entice anyone into mating. On the flip side I noticed that the new male has gotten a little darker. Their diet has remained the same. The anemone also had nothing to do with color fading because the clowns did not have it until a few days ago. They were without a host for 6 months prior to that. I am going to let them enjoy the H. Magnifica anemone for a little while and then find a nice Gigantea anemone to bring that black color back.

Update:
Sadly, I lost the pair of clowns shown in the previous post. The cause was stray voltage. However, thanks to a dear friend in Orange County, I got a new pair of wild caught Onyx clowns that came from another hobbyist's tank. The male is gorgeous and the female is nice too although she isn't quite as black as the male. They are supposed to be a spawning pair and hopefully I'll be raising a clutch or two from them in the near future.

sorry to hear about your other clownfish. The new ones are awesome. We have a poor selection of LFS in the DC area and sadly none would order wild caught anymore.

Time for an update:
I currently have 3 pairs of wild Onyx and Onyx/True Percula clownfish combos. Pair 1 and Pair 2 were acquired this past weekend. Pair 3 has been together for about a month. Pair 3 is going to a new home this week. Here are some pics.

I like to show my WC Onyx pair too. Here is the Female. She was recently acquired from a LFS. Her previous owner brought her back to the store due to unclear reason. She was thin, have scars on her head and all yellow instead of orange. After several weeks under my care she have fatten up and regain her orange color. The scar on her head have improve a lot. Hopefully she will fully heal.

Here is the male (along with a different view of the female). I have had him for several months. Initially he was not an Onyx but gain a lot of color under my care (mainly due to living in a Gigantea anemone)

This was how he looks when I first got him at the end of April, 2019. He is the fish on the right, in focus.

An here is the picture of my small Multicolor Gigantea. I will send this anemone to a friend in the next week or two.

Very nice clowns. This pair will be really special. With a Gigantea, this pair will likely be all black with orange in the caudal, anal, pectoral and perhaps the adipose fins, essentially the same coloration as the darker fish of pair Number 1.
Is pair number 2 newly imported WC?

Larger clown from Pair 2 has developed dropsy. She's been swimming around bloated and at one point released liquid cysts from her anus. Pair 2 is in QT undergoing Kanaplex, Metroplex and Prazipro treatments. I might try to give it an Epsom salt bath tomorrow.

Dropsy looks different. Most notably the fish's body scales are standing up and make the fish look like a pinecone. This looks more like the fish has eaten too much, is full with eggs. As a sign of disease it could be a tumor or blocked intestines. Eating well and behaving normal would speak against the latter.
