Jesse - nice!! Hope you didn't get in anyones way crawling around over there!

Doug - like the feel of that one. I would have liked a tad more space on the left but it still looks great.

I have not done it yet myself. My understanding is that with with high magnification you actually set the focus manually and then use rails to change the areas in focus. Actually changing the focus in the lens will change the proportion of the image more and make it harder to blend. Keep in mind this all just my recolection. Changing the aperature will only get you so far with razor thin DOF's and high magnification.

That being said, I think there is some programs that will help stitch it and do it for you (but I don't know what it/they are). I also think depending on the magnification, distance to subject, etc, you could do it by just manually changing the area you focus on too. I have done it like that before and then jsut maked it in PS but not on Macros. Once you get that huge magnification and shallow DOF it is an entirely different world.

What kind of body/lens are you doing your Macro with? Using extenders?

currently using a canon 5d mk2 with a canon 180mm f3.5 and canon macro ring flash. never used extenders. first macro lens ever had was a canon ef 60mm 2.8. are you a canon or nikon guy?

Canon - I have the 100mm Macro. I yearn for the 180mm....seems like that would be an awesome lens to play with. I'd like to play more with the extension tubes and high level magnification. I'd also like to get a bigger telephoto and do more wildlife (though based on the prices of those lenses it's gonna be a while!), and and still do landscapes...and the reeftank. Yeah, I need to quit my job to make more time. Oh wait, that's what pays for all this stuff in the first place!

Jesse that last one is cool. Just a touch of exposure on the stem would have been nice though (IMO) :).
