will a gig eat a bta?

hello,

i was wondering if a gig will eat a healthy bta and digest it without any issues? i was wondering for the purpose of zoo transfer....

i have had a blue gig for going on a couple months. it was bleached when i got it. the blue color has darkened a little, but the base / background still looks white. so, i am assuming it is from a lack of zoo. i treated, and it does not deflate. it just stays half inflated. if i fed it a bta, would that give it a good supply of zoo to maybe kick-start the zoo renewal process?

i have a couple other healthy gigs, but am too nervous to snip tentacles and feed the blue gig. i have a bunch of bta's and could spare one or 2 :)

thoughts?

Feeding a full bta sounds like a bad idea to me. The gig would be ingesting a large number of nematocysts/toxins along with the meal. Why not snip just a few tentacles of the bta and see what happens? Tentacles of the same species would be best though. I understand your concerns, but a few well-removed tentacles from a healthy gig should do no harm to the donor.

If you put a piece of food to your healthy Gigantea and forcefully remove it, some of the tentacles will stick to it. You can then feed this to your bleached Giggantea. If you have healthy Gigantea, I would do this rather than get tentacles from BTA

addictedreefer, valid point. i will keep it in consideration.

orionn, i tried that with a piece of krill, but the healthy gig just kept pulling the krill apart. lol maybe i will try some fresh seafood?

I tried feeding my healthy gig and pulling but tents wouldn't come off. Then I tried with tweezers, still not really easy. Finally I let my gig stick to my finger and I used a razor blade. The tents came off easy, clean and exactly how many I wanted which was 4. BTW, I'm a firm believer in zoo transplant.

i have done that accidentally. lol how did you then get the tents into the other gig?

I know this is regarding a different species but during QT, I had a small BTA squeeze through egg crate and float right in to a maxi carpet. I found it half way down the maxis "throat" and pulled it out. Needless to say I lost the BTA and almost lost the maxi. I think if it were any other stichodactyla, it would have been history. Luckily maxi are indestructible.

well, i hesitantly got a couple tents form one of my healthy gigs and fed it to my blue one. i will wait a week or so and try a couple tents from my other gig. hoping this will help...

thanks for the feedback...
