Will berghia lay dud eggs?

Hello everyone!

Question for those of you who have kept berghia slugs. I received a pair of very small individuals a few weeks back (about 1/4"). initially they looked healthy and began to huddle near each other, but a few days later I lost one of them (I received it with some damaged cerata).

Fast forward to today, the surviving nudi has grown to over an inch and has laid a beautiful egg ribbon. Oh Joy!! Is it possible that the pair mated at that small of size and that it held on to those gametes until now? or is this little slug just being a little tease with dud eggs.

Thanks in advance!

I'd say its very possible that the slug you have had held on to the gamete until the time was right and you should have a viable egg ribbon. Here's to hoping and congratulations on the hopefully soon to be slug babies!

Just an update for anyone who is curious. We are reaching two weeks on the egg ribbon. No apparent signs of embryonic growth (visibly no change in egg coloration or shape). I may scope a small section to see if there has been any change. Either way, it will be good information to posses for future culturing.

Last update. Egg ribbon was a bust. apparently they will lay dud eggs. There was no embryonic development at the 3,4, and 10 day mark. Need to find this little one a mate.
