Will Darkness Kill Cyano-Algae?

Does anyone know if darkness will rid my tank of the little bit of this I have?

Its actually a bacteria, so you have to get to the root of the issue. Phosphates and nitrates.

i actually don't think its an issue with either, but possibly my alkalinity, i've been buffering it the past few days

lights off for a couple of days will help but not eliminate your problem...like teamdulski said, you need to feed less, do more water changes, keep you lights on less until it is under control

I might be wrong but I thought cyano appears when there is not enough flow and that excess nutrients were not the main cause of it?
