will feeding zoos phyto help them propogate?????

you are asking two different questions. phyto will help them grow, but propagating them is another topic. that where you cut and frag them. the bigger they are the easier they are to cut, so i guess yes to your question.

Why would you say phyto would help them grow? There really is nothing to support that zoanthids uptake phytoplankton. If anything it would help produce other natural foods that palys might benefit from, but even that is a bit of a stretch and you'd be better off feeding the palys another food source.

For my palys I feed them pellet food enriched with krill and other stuff...

For zoos yes I do feed the tank live phyto I culture.. Is that proven... I don't know but it feeds copepods and other corals.

According to all the gut analysis I've seen very few corals will benefit directly from phytoplanton, including zoanthids. But if you have clams and other filterfeeders and want to boost your pod population it's great.

I gots tons of Tunicates, sponges and other cyptic animals that benefit from it...

As for the Gut analysis... there also studies about PODS not going after sesile inverts such as zoo polyps and such but if you look around RC you will see a whole bunch of people having colonies lost to swarming 1cm big ampipods eating up their collections, I have first hand experience in that as well...

there were also studies that you will have a hard time if not no chance in the past about the life expectancy of mandarins without much live rock or even smaller tanks.. but now more people are having sucess with mandarin eating prepared foods and some people are keeping them in smaller things....

There were also studies that the world was flat... we konw how that ended at...

As for studies and such, for every pro.. there is always a study that comes out for the cons... so ..... my 02. cents

Actually, no, there are no studies for those... Any scientist worth his/her salt with tell you that there are several thousand known species in Amphopoda and that their feeding habits can vary greatly and would not rule out the possibility of them snacking on our pretty little corals.

Nope, no studies about Mandarins and their life expectancy without much live rock either. Just a bunch of know-it-alls like myself saying it's not a good idea to try it without a large pod population due to past experiences.

As for the earth, a bunch of people had a bunch of ideas and common sense prevailed. No studies there either.

I'm not saying to stop using phyto, clearly you have organisms to benefit from it. But steering someone towards phytoplankton as a good food source for increasing zoanthid growth would be about the same as stealing the money they're paying for that phytoplankton.

It'll at least increase the copepods and such, which will increase available food in the tank. The more the better. You may see sponges, dusters, pods, all sorts of things.

Dosing totally increase my ampipods/mysis therefor increasing the predation on my copepods/tigerpods basically decimated them

I began direct dosing with Phyto and noticed an increase in my zoo's growing. IN truth there is no real downside to dosing Phyto and no-one has done any studies worth debating over yet. Right brained people make me laugh!! :)

There was a study done that found that 97.2% of all stastics and study findings are made up on the spot.

I agree with peter Good light, good water movement, and good water params and they take care of themselves. The only thing I have really noticed is some prefer different water movement than others.

YES if any thing it feeds them indirectly ( dead phyto rots. and i belive most palys and zoas are bactivors)
