Will live rocks die while on hyposalinity

bullitr

broke but happy
My friend Jimmy
Said this most bacteria present in marine aquaria can survive the low salinity and won't affect the hypo treatment. But keep in mind that any micro fauna that my be present on/in the media will more then likely die off.

My tank is just cycled so is ok to leave it there?

Thanks

Maybe the bacteria can but the micro life (pods etc.) And and hitchhiking inverts will die and can cause am ammonia spike.

I don't have pods yet or anything
The tank was cycled using acid dip rocks and bleached then dried for a month then cured the cement for another month using tap water. The tank is only cycling for 4 weeks but i had to do emergency transfer due to qt tank leak.

All the fishes are doing well now a week later except my goldcrown tinkeri hybrid died from bacterial infection.

Day 4
240 gallons water change later
Salinity 1.012

Last one tomorrow and it should be 1.0085 to 1.0090

So far everyone is happy hopefully it stays that way

After 60 gallon water change the salinity is still 1.0095 ...
I will fine tune it tomorrow to 1.0085

Can treat prazipro while on hyposalinity ?

Yes,i do it every time i get a new fish ..
Good luck ..With such a large amount of water you probably won't have to babysit the salinity as much .I would check it every 24 hours though

I know the feeling of doing a large tank during hypo,I kept my 240 at 1.008 for 16 weeks.Do you have a ato on the system.

10 days have past since 1.009 mark currently 1.0085
I loss small 4 platinum clownish, not because of the hyposalinity but due to TUNZE 6255 and skimmer inside the tank. The custom sump and the giant skimmer should be running soon by Sunday or Monday I am picking it up Saturday. Should I continue with every 2-3 days water change when its fully running? I never ever change this much water before I usually go for months even years without one.

Thanks

Sorry about your clowns, thats a bummer.
As long as the water quality is good i see no need to do WC's that often..
I never do them during hypo ,,just be sure to maintain that salinity level..
Good luck and keep updating

Lawrence first off good luck with your treatment, if anything goes wrong please get in touch because I am in almost the same boat and thinking of trying Hypo.

I just finished transfering all my fish in 2 established tanks into my new 400 that has been up and running for 6 weeks. The tank has 300lbs of Dry Rock and 250lbs of dry sand that has been jump started with several brands of Bacteria in a bottle. I also have 130 liters of Siporax in a clean chamber of the sump that is helping with beneficial bacteria colonies. I think I would like to follow suit with Lawrence and try Hypo to rid the fish of ick even though they are all healthy. In 8 weeks my coral going fishless will be ick free as well in theory? My question is because I have sand and rock will the ick encapsulate and this be a spinning the wheels effort to be ick free??? My fish are all healthy and showing no signs of ick with the exception of a Achilles that was the first fish in the new tank with a dozen chromies for the last few weeks. He went through QT, but is showing some ick. My cleaner wrasse has been camped out on him and he does look better, but it would be ideal to rid the tank of ick.

Lawrence have you noticed a mini cycle or any ammonia or nitrite? Any experience or help would be appreciated. Thank you, Scott

Thank you sir sorry for the late reply
Everything in the tank looks great no mini cycle or anything happen knock on wood. I notice that the fish eats a lot faster i don't know is it just a coincident but lower salinity increase their appetite and help them heal faster.

Only issues but not related to hypo are aggression and one of my blue face have lympocystis, I guess I have to run the ozone again.

Good luck in macna sir. Shake Ching chai hand for me and take a picture.
Thanks
