Will my floor hold my tank?

I am in the process of upgraing my tank to a 180 and I have a raised floor as well. I will be adding support under my tank with three foundation blocks and my buddy has a 12 foot 4x10. I will span all the joists two feet from my foundation for just peace of mind. my $.02

Thanks to all of you. I'm not trying to be difficult or hard headed. The problem is that I can't beef up the floor. The tank will be over the finished side of my basement and there is no way I can add support to the floor joists.

hey yetdrvr,,,i have my 180g tank right by the wall and obove basement,,,with the same floor joint like your,,but my house is 1999 builded,,and the older house i think there wood much harder so if you look around the joist and floor above ,,not thing like rot or moiseter then go for it,,,i don't jack my floor up,,and i have 180g with another 100g 10feet away,,,no problem here,,,as long at the joise is solid wood of 2x6x12max,,,then you can go to 220 no problem,,
i will replace 180 with 220 same place,,,very soon if you want to see picture i will get you some,,,good luck,,

My 360 is on a wood floor. I braced the floor after the tank was full of water. I also have a 120 gallon sump under it, 1000lbs of sand, and 700lbs of rock.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry much. Sounds like you will be fine.

Make sure the tank is perfectly level, mainly so it doesn't burst but also if the floor sags you will be able to measure from the top of the water to the top of the tank and notice any differences.

tkeracer what did you do to brace your floor. Sorry if that is a vague question but I am kind of clueless about this and considering purchasing a 300 (60x36x30) gallon with a 90 gallon sump and putting it on a first floor over a full basement. Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread. Is the bracing a very complicated process?
