Will sub-male flame wrasse go super male?

I had a flame wrasse pair but lost my super male during a tank move. I believe the female has since then turned into a sub-male (she has more yellow on her now and no longer has that iridescent patern on her back). If I was to get a another female flame wrasse would the sub-male turn super male?

If you provide him with a phone booth and do not add any kryptonite you have a good chance to make him a super male, good luck

You need a few females to mimic a harem, at least 6 IMO. They will establish a pecking order then the alpha will turn supermale and prevent the rest from turning, you may also end up with a sub male waiting in line if the supermale dies. Good luck!

You'll be fine, she'll transition to terminal male on her own without any other flames present. How easily this happens with Cirrhilabrus wrasses is dependent upon species, but flames do this very easily.

Just give it time; it may take several months. If you wish to add more flames at any point in time, they must be the females, the smaller the better. Juvi's are even preferred.

Thanks for the replies. I'll add a couple of females soon and see what happens. Hopefully she turns out as nice as the male I lost.
