Will they stop breeding if moved?

I'm thinking of buying an already breeding pair of True Percula Clownfish with their tank that they are currently mating in. BUT I do have to move them and I want them to breed and not to stop. I've herd moving them will most likely cause them to stop. What do you guys think? Am I better off buying my own clowns and trying myself? Or trying to move these guys? Thanks!!!

They'll stop breeding until they're comfortable with their habitat again. If you buy the breeding pair, assuming your husbandry is satisfactory and you're feeding them constantly and nutritiously, then they'll probably recommence their carnal relations within a few months.

Bought a beautiful pair of clarkii clowns....I purchased them with their anemone...moved both to my tank....they moved to my other Haddoni, and in less than 30 days laid their first batch of eggs...should hatch tomorrow night:celeb2:

Just posted a thread about this when I first got my clowns, a mated pair it took 8 months for them to start spawning again. Had them in a 29 bio cube and were laying eggs. Moved pair to a 20 long and interrupted their cycle cause they showed no sign their territorial instincts dimminished. Moved them back into the 29 bio cube this morning and as of this time they are laying eggs. Less then a days difference. Do not know what triggered this, but with conditioning with food, water parameters and what not, you might coax them to start breeding again. Be patient.

I agree with that. Mine have been in roughly seven tanks between tank changes, moving residences, etc. Typically anywhere between a few days to a month they start back again. It all depends how "happy" they are with the new environment and if they can find a spot quickly they wish to host.

This has been my experience, too.

its all up to the individual pair really. i had clowns shipped to me and they started spawning within in a week o getting them. i had a pair from a friend that havent started spawning in 2 months and another from a local guy start spawning in 3 months. so its random.
if you do transfer them i would wait a day after they lay their eggs. if you do it before they lay and are full of eggs, she might not lay them and become impacted with them and then she will have to absorb them. plus waiting after she lays she will be a little tired and not put up a fight and be more relaxed. and if you can do it after lights out helps to.

It is always best to move them to the same water conditions with eggs & they should keep going.

Sweet! Thanks guys! I'm getting a mating pair of Misbars that have their own environment already set up, and I just got a pair of Black Ice Clownfish on hold at the local aquarium.
