Will's New Build

Hello everyone. So I finally settled on the dimensions for the tank. I have been researching for months, and am ready to get this thing going! I ordered the tank from Aaron at the SPS store a few weeks ago. I believe it should be delivered in another 3-4 weeks. I went with a custom Lee-Mar tank. Only the front panel will be StarFire. 60x24x20, 1/2' glass rimless with corner gussets. There will be 4 holes drilled in the back on tempered glass, and polished edges. Also Aaron is going to do the back in black vinyl for me.

I have the larger ghost overflow from Reef Saavy, so it is being drilled for that, with two additional holes for the two return lines. I have 2 eheim 1260 pumps for the dual returns on this thing. Should be a lot of flow.

A carpenter friend of mine built the stand and canopy for me, and it is about ready for delivery. My wife and I have a lot of reclaimed wood furniture in our place, so I had him build it with reclaimed wood as well. Love how it is turing out. He still has to add some shelves and hardware for the doors.

Let me know what you guys think so far! I have almost all of the equipment for this, with the exception of the following items I would like to have: Controller, Algae Scrubber, Doser. I have zero experience with algae scrubbers or dosing, so any advice would be great.

Will

Hey guys, no wonder the people at Reef Saavy wont answer my calls or return my emails. I bought the ghost overflow in October, and only opened the box this month (pretty dumb of me, I know). Anyway, I noticed that the cover for the exterior portion of the unit was not included. I am pretty sure it was supposed to come with one. I was even going to pay for them to make me a matching lid if it did not come standard. Awesome piece of equipment though. I have attached a few pics of it. Do any of you know where I can get a matching acrylic lid made?

I have the 24" model. 3000 GPH total flow. It has three bulkheads for the draining. I am not sure how to set up the plumbing honestly, so Aaron at SPS has committed to helping me do it all once the tank arrives to his shop.

Also when looking at the top down image, you see that there are two braces running in the center. One of them is not glued down. What do you guys recommend I use to glue it? Both pieces are acrylic.

Talk with Aaron and he will either help you with this or point you in the right direction. I don't think those are hard fixes at all.

34 Gallon Sump from Synergy Reef. The Reactor is also from Synergy Reef. I also got an ATO 10 gallon container from them (not pictured).

I got 2 27" 160W Maxspect Razor's in the 16000k model. These will be mounted in the canopy. Also I have a few T-5 units that I might supplement these with, depending on how it all looks...

Here is a pic of one of the new lights over the sump just for fun...

Stand looks amazing. Just wondering if the bracing piece in the middle between the doors has to be there. Aesthetically it looks great but I think you'd have more of an open space to work if it was wide open. That's if it does not affect the structural integrity of the stand. Just a thought.

Here is a pic of my table...

<a href="http://s116.photobucket.com/user/duryeah/media/2014%20Tank/photo1-1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o19/duryeah/2014%20Tank/photo1-1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo photo1-1.jpg"/></a>

I would imagine that the center brace is necessary as a load bearing structure, but I am no engineer, so not sure. He already finished it, and I don't think it will bother me, so I think it will be ok. We already checked to make sure the sump fit, which it does.

Nice table. Seriously, your stand makes me want to ditch my IKEA stand for one just like that. Maybe when I eventually upgrade...

Looking great. Where at in burbank are you? Im here in sylmar and rebuilding my tank as well :-)

Hey Chef, I live at Buena Vista and Olive. Would love to come check out your build someday.

Glad to inspire. I hope it looks good when finished.

So I picked up a frag tank yesterday, JBJ 20 gallon AIO rimless, glass. 24x20x9. I have never tried a frag tank before. Any recommendations? Do I just run carbon in this thing and do frequent water changes? Any advice would be appreciated.

Also ordered a custom Nano Box Duo led light from Nano Box Reef. Great guys to work with. They are going to make the light look like it goes with my reclaimed wood stand. I asked him to add the new Lime Green LED color, and a third dedicated moonlight channel to the unit.

I am debating whether I want to have my buddy build me a stand for this thing and set it up, or if I just want to have the frag tank live in the stand for the main tank. Any drawbacks to this? I am putting two fans on the stand to draw in cool air and push out hot air.

looks like its going to be nice. Not sure if you have room but I think I would start a refugium in the sump

Ive done tanks with and without in the past. Seems to me the tank does better with one

Thanks Bean. I bought a small internal sump and light to set up inside of the sump. I will post pics in the next few days when I remember. Hoping to pick up the stand from my buddies house this weekend as well, and will post lots of pics at that time.
