Woohoo, I got a clam!

I've wanted a clam for a long time and I finally got one! Paid a bit more than I wanted but it's the only place withing 150miles that gets them in.

It's a 4" squamosa with pretty good coloring. Bright neon blue fringe with the normal inside colors. He seems to be likeing my tank pretty well as he opened up after only sitting in the tank for about 10 mins. Been about an hour and he's fully open with no signs of gaping or pinching.

One thing I was concerned about. At the store he was sitting on eggcrate and had ancored himself. The guy was gentle getting him off but it took a while and I was worried that he might have ripped his foot. If so, is it something that it will repair?

I will be getting in some DT's live phytoplankton in a few days and will start feeding him then. It's not really a baby, but still small, should I feed 2-3 times a week or more??

If you said the guy ripped the clam off the eggcrate, then I'd be concerned. Sounds like he was careful not to do too much damage. What he should have done is cut the theads with a knife if possible. It might be hard to tell if the foot is OK with a squammy. From what I've heard, they're slow to attach. And byssal organs sometimes look torn up anyway. Only thing you can do is keep an eye on it for now.

Considering the fact that the clam is already 4" and it doesn't even need as much light as a crocea or maxima to make its food, you might not even need to feed it. But it wouldn't hurt. Depending on your lighting, too. 10 gallon tank right? If it were me, I'd add a capful of DTs to the water column every other day in the beginning to ensure the clam gets enough food to gain its strength back.

No, I waited until my 29g was setup for a while and stable until I got this guy.

I have 220w of pc lighting, 4x55w, ane even though it's a 29g, ie tall, I have a 5"-6" sand bed so it's not tooo far from the lights.

I was told over on barrys site that I should have plenty of light for a squamosa or derasa.

He's fully open again today, but I realized something last night when looking at pics of other squamies, my color pattern is really different. Instead of round splotches of orange or whatever color mine has horizontal lines mixed with black vertical lines. The outside edge of the mantel is also lined with a bright bright blue and purple. Do I have a different type of some kind???
