Hey guys! I have a 90g reef setup that hasn't even been up and running six months yet. I moved everything from my 58g over to the 90g. Everything has been doing great. A friend just bought me a small blue maxima as a present. While I have always wanted one, I was too nervous to buy one. Now that I have one, I am really nervous. He's about two inches long. Right now he is on the sandbed and has been open since I placed him in the tank. He's been in the tank about a week and seems to have acclimated well. Bright color, always open. I target feed DT's every other day. I add C-Balance daily and Combisan once a week. Water parameters couldn't be better. I have VHO lighting (2 URI 10000K and two URI Superactinic bulbs, 95 watts each). Tank is 24" deep. I plan on moving him up in the rockwork slowly. Should I be okay with him or should I consider removing him and taking him to the LFS? All the research I have done in the past when I was considering one recommends MH lighting, etc.. A friend of mine who has been into reef tanks for years told me I am crazy and that I should take him out. Considering he's been open and everything from the minute I put him into the tank, I think he's okay. I'm open to what you guys have to say. I only have two years in the hobby and I learn more every day. I just don't want this beautiful creature to die though I love looking at him. As usual, any advice would be great!

so long as he is open has his color and you keep your water parameters up i dont see a problem.. if something changes to the clam for the worse then i would begin worry.. but from what you say he looks good.. do you have a pic? and what are your water parameters a lot of reefers use the word "fine" but that not mean anything .. Alk, Ca, Ph,
You should be fine if you move up higher and closer to the lights. Try to make a little ledge or some for him to attach to and not fall off of. Don't be afraid to take the plunge on clams, for the most part, they are pretty easy under the right conditions. You'll get the clam addiction pretty soon.
Here is a picture of the maxima. I am still trying to get him to attach to a flat piece of rock. I just have to keep my snails away from him, they keep knocking him over.

IMO He should be fine in your tank. Just move him up midway slowly. I have a crocea (needs more light than yours) got him when he was about 2inches now he has nearly doubled in size. He's weird though he likes the sandbed instead of the rocks....
I am just wondering why he won't attach to anything. I came home from work last night and he was on his side. Foot was out and attached to the rock he was next to but he wasn't upright. I got up this morning and he was unattached and on his side again. I took a small piece of live rock and chiseled it a little to make a flat shelf. He's sitting on that at the bottom of the tank. Open but won't attach. I've read on other posts they can be tempermental and do their own thing but it's been a week.
