Would/Do you program Apex from your phone?

I've started work on a major Windows Mobile 7 application that could include program edit from the phone (currently I have program review) but I am curious if people would even edit their programs from a mobile device. I have a phone sized webpage utility that includes editing profiles and programs and I can tell by click counts that they are accessed but I can't tell if they are used to change programming or only review what is there so I wanted to ask.

So would you?

Even if I had or planned to get a W7M device, I probably would not use that capability much, if at all. In a mobile device, outlet control and good monitoring capability are much more important to me. But then again, I rarely am far from a full computer, should I want to change a program.

Regardless, I truly appreciate your multi-faceted dedication to the community, Ken!!!

I am not running WM7, but for reference I would not modify programs from my phone. I only use my phone for outlets, graphs and status. Code changes always wait until I have an interent connection which is quick and stable.

+1 on all the community support you perform. Thank you.

I have to agree Ken. Can't see a situation where I would have to or want to modify a program from my phone. Controlling outlets and watching probe values is what I find most useful.

I can't see the need to edit the program from the phone unless there was a more optomized method like drop down lists and sliders for the programming and values. Typing code on a phone is just too frustrating. I would be more likely to fire up the laptop or find a standard PC to edit the program from the road.

On an alternative; what about the ability to read the program (aka; to see what an outlet is set to do just to verify that it is setup the way you would expect it to be)?

I would say most of the time, I would not use this either. If I was making a large change in my system then yes it would be nice. Once setup, the only code changes I am doing now are dosing pumps, temp control and possibly lighting. Most frequent is my dosing pump timers and this is only every few weeks.

Ken,

I'm using a Windows Phone 7 device now and would like to see the ability to backup/restore the programming in case of a real emergency. Could this be done?

I don't foresee me ever needing to reprogram from the phone. Monitoring or manually changing an outlet would be my primary use-cases.

There have been a couple times when I was out of town for an extended lenght of time and had someone watching the tank where I had to go in and edit the code for dosing to correct falling alk. But, was able to do that through the Bolt browser on the blackberry. May be handy to do it through the dedicated program, but it isn't really a necessity. I don't forsee going to a windows phone anyway...USCellular doesn't have much in the way of choices for them at this point.

This would be nice. It would also be good to have the option to program form a phone although I likely would not use it.

Ken,

I travel extensively overseas and have used the programming capability that existed in the iPhone app (before I upgraded to the Apex...then that capability went away). While I used it rarely, I did have needs in that area and my phone always works in most of the places I have to go. Not so in some places where an internet connection is just non-existent.

I am obviously in the minority here and I use the iPhone...so, may not be an issue for what you are doing.

I would use it to review the code on an outlet (and other configuration code), but I agree with most of the posters...I doubt I would program much with it, if at all. Its just too hard to get all the syntax correct while dealing with the auto-correct and such.
