I currently have PC lighting:
One 55watt 10k
One 65watt 10k
One 65watt actinic
Two 18watt NO T5 actinics
Over a 29 gallon, standard tank dimensions I think it's 18" tall.
I want to go to 175watt metal halide 20k to get the best colour.
Would this be a significant upgrade? The thing I love most about metal halide is how good corals look under it. In person I have yet to see a tank lit with flourescents that rivals a tank lit with MH, things always just look so much more crisp and I partially think it's because of the single point source of light which gives you shadows and contrast versus the flat look that flourescents give. I also really enjoy the 'shimmer' effect that MH gives.
Maybe a 15k bulb would be better than 20k?
I'm hoping to grab a used 175 system with an 8 month old 20k bulb that I'll run for a month or two before going to a 15k or another 20k.
This is to light a zoo/ricordia tank with maybe a few LPS, right now I have a frogspawn and RBTA in there as well.
Opinions, comments, criticisms are all welcome
