This is my 1st post but I'd like to touch base on some issues I'm having. I've been doing this for about 2 years now, in the last year I've been running my new 90g mixed reef set up. I've recently converted my old Hamilton 2x175mh and 2x110 vhos for my diy 72 x 3w cree set up. I noticed almost instant color up on all my somewhat newly aqquired sps frags in just a few days. I've always kept up with water changes and never had a problem with any swings or spikes in water specs.
I knew my old light set up was a little lacking but I didn't have really any high light demanding SPS species, and the ones I did have, I ran them up high to get plenty of light. As I look at comparison photos of everyones SPS, I believe that mine are getting their butts flat out stomped. Phosphate never showed any reading on the API test. So I took it in to my LFS and to my surprise,my phosphate was through the roof!:headwally: I even double checked with a different kit of the same brand I had at the house!
I ended up finding my problem was my RO DI membrane was just shot, which when I bought it from the guy he said he had just changed it. I took his word for it because the 3 filters in the acrylic housings looked new. So hopefully I stopped the introduction of the dreaded po4.
Long story short I decided to get a Phosban reactor for some GFO. This is day 2 and it looks like someone pulled all my poo poo brown sps and switched them out. I've even started to notice white growth tips on numerous acros. 2 days???? Is this even possible?? If anyone has had any other problems like this, how long did it take yours to recover??
