wow.......wow...........wow must see

nice, crazy nice! wonder what they have setup to remove humidity...
good question!

furthermore (and I have to wonder about this) how come the whole aquarium system appears to be an afterthought in this house?

just look at the cramped space behind the aquarium! (gimme a break- you have to crawl UNDER the aquarium to get back there and then CLIMB ON TOP of the acrylic braces to get into the aquarium?)

NIGHTMARE!

somebody tell the guy to get that Vortech controller off the floor before it gets wet!

It does reek of Neuveau Rich. Vegas. Squeezing 10lbs of sausage into a 5 lb bag.

As far as a nightmare goes, I doubt the owner is doing the dirty work.

Regardless, most would have to admit, its quite an impressive spectacle as a whole. I hate who ever has it. I love it as an ideal.

Just to let everybody know this aquarium is maintained completely by the owner. He does not have any service guy helping him out. The aquarium was added to the house later - it was not in the plans when the home was built. As for ventilation there are large exhaust fans in the canopy area as well as the filter room. The filter room also has it's own AC.

I can tell you from experience that crawling under the aquarium and accessing it from the back is easy for someone 6'2" and 200 lbs. Sitting on the top brace to mount corals is only necessary when mounting in some areas of the tank. The main thing is that corals can be mounted anywhere without trouble.

The vortech controllers are all well mounted now. We were just testing one out the day before we shot the video. 6 filter socks can easily be changed in 3 minutes.

$150,000? :lmao: I would be really surprised if the budget for that system didn't surpass $500,000.

Either way, I'm very surprised to hear that he maintains the system. One helluva setup, thats for sure. Thanks for chiming in, Vivid.

PS- There's an aquarium a few hours north of here that comes to mind; certainly one of the most in-depth build threads to ever hit RC. Don't believe me? :)

You're making it really hard to hate this guy! Its such an unbelievable set up I can't help but be a jealous hater. Great work Vivid!

Well the $100k if you did the work yourselk. Maybee much less. but paying a custom shop to do it all? I think the $500k is probably closer. That would factor in the extra engineering on the floors and electrical, the electrician and plumbing, custom cabinetry and such. I dont know what the tank itself goes for.. maybee $20k...I wouldnt know.

I dont believe the 100 hours just for the install. Thats only 2.5 weeks. Maybe just his shop and a team of 4 guys. The electrical work was probably 3 days. That custom cabinetry took a month in some off site shop. Just setting the tank probably took a day...

Pretty cool system. I was scratching my head trying to figure out how the heck that was 2400 gallons until the end where he showed the pair of 600g bins. I personally really liked his salt mixer.

thanks for your reply. There's a lot to like about this system as a whole. Personally, I love the QT areas for corals and fishes and the lighting choices.
Given some time for corals to grow this display should look spectacular.

I would have gladly traded off aquarium size for easier access.
The best case scenario would be to design a house around such a large aquarium but you can't always have everything :)
