Hi guys, I have a 65 gal. SPS reef and would like to add one last fish. I was thinking about anthias but I think im going to pass on those. I'd like a flasher wrasse. I was thinking maybe somthing a little more rare. So, its come down to either a Rosy fin Fairy wrasse or hawiian flame wrasse? Please tell me what you think about each species and what fish you woud choose. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Has anyone have any experience with the Rosy fin Wrasse? Its the undescribed species that is availble on LA some times.

First, these are not FLASHER wrasses, they are FAIRY wrasses. A mystery wrasse is aggressive towards fairy wrasses and some others. C. bathyphilus is NOT a flame wrasse nor rosy fin wrasse. The rosy fin is Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis whereas the flame wrasse is Cirrhilabrus jordani. For fairy or flashers wrasses, you need a tightly covered tank (not egg crate).

Sorry about the confusion snorvich. C. bathyphilus and C. rubrisquamis are not the wrasses im referring too. Im comparing C. jordani to the undescribed fairy wrasse in the link I posted to reefs.org.

The undescribed fairy wrasse on LA is a pintail wrasse which is quite rare (I have one) and usually difficult to find. This wrasse is not as colorful as C. jordani but is less aggressive.

danfrith: Those are what are called Tonga flames or Rosy fin wrasse. Not yet described, I believe. Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus is often called a Hooded wrasse.

+1 with above. The males of flame wrasses are somewhat difficult shippers. FYI. C. bathyphilus is a great fish!

I don't know anything about them but based solely on looks check out McCormick's flasher wrasse. It is a gorgeous fish.

It's acutally McCosker's :rolleye1:, Paracheilinus mccoskeri. I'm dumb :)

I have been considering mccoskers, but would like somthing a little more different, everybody has a mccoskers.
