Wrasse ID

Bought him from the LFS as "Flasher Wrasee" for 20 bucks.This is a horrible pic, but this little sucker is fast. And I only have a cell phone for pic. Also the blue from my LEDs kind of makes the colors weird. He's redish orange with a light belly, there's some yellow on the tail, and the stripes are more purple than blue. He also has a single streamer type thing up top.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking Paracheilinus flavianalis although it could also be a P. mccoskeri...

Ah...with both of those, the streamer thing is more in the center of the top fin. Sorry I'm unsure of proper names for fins...Anyway, the streamer on my wrasse in at the beginning of the fin, closest to the head.

Both are gorgeous fish though and I'd be ecstatic if that's what my little guy turns into.

What color is the anal fin (fin on the bottom towards the tail)? It looks yellowish, but I want to make sure.

If it is yellow, I'm going to say P. flavianalis.

Whats the difference between this one and a kwazulu?

@amb - the anal fin has a slight publish tinge but is mostly clear. The tail fin is a little yellow.

@ben - theres not much as far as pics for that wrasse. But the rc post about it with pics looks the closest so far. Except mine still only has that single streamer. Do they develop more as they mature maybe? Mine is still pretty small at about 2"

Wish I could get a better pic for you guys. I watch my tank from across the room and he's all over the tank, nice and poofed. Soon as I walk up he hides...

Your wrasse isn't a fairy wrasse. Definitely looks like a flasher wrasse, which I'm thinking is a P. flavianalis (yellowfin flasher wrasse). Though, P. mccoskeri is a likely possibility. Seeing the anal fin flared would be helpful for sure.

BTW, the term you're looking for is dorsal filaments (not streamers).

With only one, it's absolutely either Paracheilinus mccoskeri or Paracheilinus flavianalis; the coloration of the anal fin would make that distinction.

It's a yellowfin like the pic ambition added. Red stripe on the anal, and the fin on the bottom is yellow instead of red. It would be easier to tell if it was a higher quality pic of it flashing, but I'd bet a months pay it's not a mccoskers. I love flasher wrasses you're going to enjoy that guy.
