Wrasse losing mouth tissue

Ok. At first I thought this was left over bristle on the lower part of my feminus wrasse. But I notice this am that it is more like the lower part of the lip on the mouth is gone. It is missing more today than a few days ago. So it is receding. Thoughts on why this is. Trying to get a pic to post.

Not sure what is going on in your case, but I had a bird wrasse with a similar issue. It's upper "beak" had a bacterial infection and tissue started to recede. Several paraguard dips later and the tissue stopped receeding. The exposed bone/tooth did fall off though. The fish now has a shorter upper beak but seems fine.

Yes. He has sand bed. Ine thought it might be injury trying to burry.

I've seen sand-sleeping wrasses go through the bottom of a shallow bed and keep on trying to go until their face is smashed up like this, so definitely a possibility.

Here is a wrasse that had no sand in QT. He rubbed his nose right off.

hm... Mine is a little worse.. you might be on to something.. my bed is bare in the center of the long tank.. nine feet.. at the ends it is like 2 inches..other places its 1 1/2 due to the pumps. he cant dig and bury any more.. he is sleeping on the sand.. things is... he is up and trying to eat all the time. but has hard time getting food in mouth.
