What is the difference between the pro and regular?

The pro has primarily higher ca and mg.

Actually sorry the bucket I got from jeffs is only like 150 gallons or something

BTW: I hate instant ocean it takes way too long to dissolve

that salt costs to much... try a 50/50 mix of IO and oceanic or Seachem reef...
Although the salt is expensive, I have never seen anyone complain of mixing up a bad batch. It may have the best quality control in the industry. Over the years it may be the only salt that tests out at consistant levels every time.

but at that price...

$19 for a 50 gallon mix... Seachem reef is only $13.25.. that really adds up quick when you have a large tank and do a 25 gallon water change every week...

Come on Gabe, you paid how much for that Red Dragon pump to move the cheap water and how much for that skimmer to keep that cheap water clean. I can see you didn't skimp on $ when it came to your equipment. You bought some of the best available. It should be no different here Gabe.

Lol someone knows my tank pretty well...Are you going to be at RAP?
thats true, i have spent a pretty penny on equipment.. but from what i have read a 50/50 mix of IO and Oceanic come out to near perfect reef requirements... then from what i have read Seachem reef comes in second best... i dont see people using TM salt very often on the boards...

From my reading of this article analyzing trace elements in Advanced Aquarist TM came out the least-bad from the perspective of potentially unhealthy elements. That seemed important to me. I also do about 5-gal weekly water changes in my smaller tank, so cost isn't as much of an issue in my case.

LOL you also live in Brentwood.. need i say more...;)

Also Seachem Reef is not on that list...

Considering the resuts of that bad batch of kent salt recently, and I've heard of bad batches of instant ocean too, I would gladly pay an extra $20/200g for a company with a reliable product. Especially since salt is technically the single largest additive in everyone's tank!!

I am not knocking the salt.. i just don't see many people using it....

Let's back up and take a deep breath. Now, repeat the above statement again, only this time relace the word "salt" with the words "Red Dragon Pump" and there is you reason to junk your pump.

Sounds crazy huh?

Gabe, I'm just trying to be objective here. I don't even use Tropic Marin Pro Salt. However the owners of the tanks that I have envied most, (Carlos aka: pucci & Drew Weatherholt, featured in Ultimate Aquariums) swore by it because it is always perfect and that safety factor alone was worth the increase in price to them. Because of their excelent quality control there are no variations from batch to batch. Even over several years of production. "Besides, it comes from Germany. It's got to be the best right? :D," said Greg to the owner of the German skimmer and pump.
