Hi there all...

Well (Laughing).. I have had my 175's for less than a month and I have decided I need more light... A friend suggested that I try Ya'll before I go out ordering on-line from one of the big shops.... (No names)... I would prefer a dual ballast, and even more prefer an electronic one... That is mostly wishful thinking because I can't imagine lots of them just laying around... haha

I'm going to use the new/old bulbs for the fuge that was dropped off today by the wonderful Dave... (Thanks Dave)... So I'll also need some kind of retro kit for the 175's.... Not the ballast.. Just the other parts...

Thanks all,

Rose... A.K.A. Jennifer61577

I forget what the acronym stands for. Magnetic ballast that fires the double-ended bulbs.

magnetic use more electricity but burn the bulb better but also makes the life or the bulb shorter!

This is partly true. Electronic ballasts will fire any kind of bulb, mogul or double-ended.

Magnetic ballasts come in two types, those that will only fire mogul socket bulbs and those that also will fire the DE bulbs. The latter, if used with regular mogul socket bulbs, will burn those bulbs hotter and reduce the lifespan of the bulb. But they burn better, generally speaking.

As far as I know, 250 watts is 250 watts, the difference in consumption between a standard magnetic ballast and an electronic ballast I believe exists, but is a matter of pennies a month. But I'm on shakier ground here. I can say that I noticed no effect on my electric bill when I switched from the standard magnetic 150 ballasts to the HQI M80 ballasts.

I can bring ballasts to the Imac show. New, with warranty, same as mail order pricing. Save on the shipping. I was not going to bring any unless someone pre-ordered. Too much weight/space to hall home. lmk, Dirk 651-388-7319
