Looking to upgrade the skimmer on our 100g. Seeking an in-sump needle-wheel model....preferrably something like an ASM G-1x or ASM G-2, however willing to consider similar quality and style skimmers.

Already been through the Used Equipment forum and didn't find anything I liked...and missed out on one 'cause I was driving home from C-bus and someone snatched it faster.

So.....any out there in need of a new home???

Already posted this in the CORA forum as well.

Hi,

I just posted a thread about selling my tank and stuff. I've got a Turbofloter Multi 1000 (needle wheel design pump) for sale. I used it for our 125 and it worked great. Let me know if you are interested.

i would say don't get an asm g2. i've got one and its never worked well for me. i know some people love them but my personal experience has been bad. just now i added a valve mod and i'm about to add a mesh mod this week. hopefully that will fix it but i'd go with something that works at least decently out of the box.

Ironically I've heard different stories on the ASM G-2. Now, friends of mine have the ASM G-1x and they have no issues with that one either....no mods or anything, skims great right out of the box.

Just why I'm convinced skimmers are, for the most part, personal preference and always susceptable (sp???) to production variation (except for the really low end stuff....generally that stuff doesn't work much at all).

But thanks for adding your thoughts/experience.

i just got a new G-2 and love it ,,,did the mods to it , works just fine ,,,,has been pulling stuff out big time , from the day put it in ,,, cant beat it for the price ,,,,, i have alot of buds with the G series skimmers that dont reallly have to many bad things to say about them.. i would keep a complete gasket kit for them ( sold @ Salty )

when you take them apart to clean they leak it your not careful putting it back together ,,,,, and some old gaskets seem to be good and leak ,,,, i keep a full extra set here just for that reason

ehh, we'll see, i can tell you i'm definatly not the only one who regrets gettign an asm g2. the biggest problem is it will pull nothing and pull nothing and then one day overflow. i'm hoping the gate mod will change that.

do the gate valve mod ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it works real good

check out the pic ,,i have to empty my cup & overflow every 2-3 days ,,,draws a ton of stuff out of the water ...... you can adjust the water level big time ,,,,,, might not be for everyone ,,but works well for me ,,,,, no overflow issues ever

I have a EuroReef CS/ 8-2 I am selling. It has a gate valve mod as well as a bigger Sedra pump then what it came with. It might be a tad to big for your needs depending on your tank.

I have a Octopus NW-150 I would like to sell. It has only been used for about 6 months. I also have some enkamat for the meshmod I never did that I will throw in as well. $125 for everything.

I was considering a couple different skimmers for awhile. Finally decided on the ASM G1x. Could not be happier with it. Easy to adjust to what you want, quiet, no microbubbles.

Came out of the box ready to go. No mods or anything.

Have emptied the collection cup 3 times since Fri. night. The cup was more full than this just wanted to show what it was pulling.

Couldn't be happier!!!!!

Thanks for the hits so far everyone.....still in the hunt. Really like that ASM line though.

purplereef...sent you a PM on your skimmer.

What are you running currently? I maybe old school but I love my PM Bullet 1 Becket injector skimmer, it is quiet, never needs adjusted or any type of mods and with the waste collector I clean the cup monthly and empty the collector x2 weekly, I will admit it draws 90 watts but it sucks nasties like no other skimmer I have ever owned and if I am not mistaken AquaticTech is going to be running a large quad Becket on his green house set up, just my 2 cents

Currently I am still making use of my AquaC Remora Pro w/Mag pump. I am running it on the sump like a hang on just with an extended feed hose from the pump to the skimmer. It works but it's a little noisy (waterfall return) and promotes the salt creep under the tank....and just in general is a little under-powered for the tank. I also don't think it's pulling everything out that it could be (I only empty the cup once every week and a half or so).

Did you find one? I have a g-2 that I’m going to sell and it has the mesh mod, gate mod and if you don’t like the mesh mod I have the needle wheel on a spare pump so that the skimmer, 2 pumps and all the mod for $200 + shipping. I'm taking down a 90 gal in the next couple of day so it available.
