Hey there I am trying to find a skimmer for my Euro Reef 8- 3 it has an 8-inch body and is roughly 30 inches tall I still have the sedra 5000 but don't want to buy a new impeller if there is a better pump available :-) do any of you have any extra pumps lying around or maybe an extra sedra 5000 impeller? I have a ton of different stuff to trade help a brother get back into the hobby :-)

I don't think you will find a psk600 will work as well as the sedra. I sure didn't even though the gph is supposed to be the same. I had to raise my output tube a lot to get anything out of it on my G4 which is not as tall as uour skimmer.

Thanks! How is it that the sedra is still holding it's own after ten years?! Haha

The Sedra is not the most reliable pump around. The impeller magnets swell and fail every few years, some times destroying the pump. Which mine recently did. At least I assume that is what happened as I can not get the impeller out any more. I had just recently cleaned it and thought it was good for another few months, asit was only a little swollen.
They also use a lot of electricity. That was my real reason for trying another pump.
the Jebao dct6000 skimmer pump maybe a reasonable alternative, although they are not particularly reliable. The Deepwater pumps seem to be better quality at a reasonable price, but I don't know of a needle wheel impeller for them. One could probably be printed on a 3d printer without to much trouble. I have been looking at other skimmers as well, but have limited space in my sump. most of the skimmers with internal pumps have limited bubble exposure time since the pump out put is so high in the skimmer. Just this morning I was looking at the Skimz oval 223 Skimmer and really like the way the pump is set up init giving maximum bubble contact time in a standard height skimmer. Another option is to make a taller skimmer which I have the room for.

At one point I had converted another Euro Reef 8 3 into a recirculating skimmer but was not satisfied with the results you are absolutely correct about the impeller mine is swollen so before spending 40 bucks on a replacement I figured I would ask around :-)

I had a sedra 9000 that had the permanently swollen and stuck thing going on as well it is in the trash now hahaha then again not many things have survived from 10 years ago in this Hobby and the Euro Reef always gave me an amazing performance
