I have a goldstriped maroon pair. The male has three times now shown up with something in his mouth that looks like a small length of fishing line, about a quarter inch. The first two times I gave it a couple of days, then gently caught him and pulled it out of his mouth. There is a lot of resistance too it, then it lets go with a POP, like something is breaking off. Now its back, only this time he has two, one on each side, It looks like plastic Fu Manchu type mustache LOL!! Before I go fishing again, is ther ANY normal reason this could be happening too him, and him only? I have thouroghly searched the tank and see nothing that would have that in it. I am now guessing the food? I feed a little frozen prime reef and crushed up formula 2 flakes in the am, then a light SanFranBay brand angel and butterfly and more flakes in the evening. I look, but wow its a tiny bit of line so would be very easy too miss. Hopefully someone has had some experience and came name the problem food? I have a pic, but no idea how too get it posted.
Thanks.

He may have atttacked a bristle worm and got needle stuck to his mouth and face. This usually disolved in a few days.

No brsitle worm in my tank that im aware of, just some hermit crabs, a sally lightfoot crab, a Blue Coris wrasse, and a Coral Beauty. I sent the pics too nemo, but I still have no idea how too post them myself. You can see them pretty good in the pic though

Well, I can get pics into my gallery, but not up here. Please go too my gallery and you can see what im talking about. The link is the logo just above my posts..

To post pics, right click on the pic in the gallery, go to properties and right click and copy the link info.

Come to the forum, paste the info. In front of the link, type [ IMG ] (without the spaces between the []), and after the link type [ /IMG ] (without the spaces.) It should post the pic. :)

Excellent.. I did not know you had too type type the Img thing, thanks for your help. Look like any parasite or familiar foriegn objects too you? Once I might have though it was a foriegn object in the food, but this is his 3rd time.

I may be way off here, but do you have dogs or cats ? It almost looks like a hair to me.

I know occasionally I'll see a stray hair from one of my pets floating in the tank....maybe your fish finds them !? lol

Just a thought.

Nah, and its very stiff, like a short length if very thick filament would be, not like hair at all. Not much more too go on I guess. Maybe ill give it a couple more days then pull it again..

Hate too though.. you have too tug really hard, cant beleive it does not hurt a bit. I reposted this in disease forum maybe someon will see and reply there.

Thanks again

John

NOW that sounds interesting

NOW that sounds interesting

Hey!!

Come think of it I have a big ugly fiberglass thingamajig in my tank that I was ging too get rid of during the conversion too reef. The inside is all hollow, and the fish would hide up there ALL the time, so I stuffed most of the top with loose filter material. That would be a very likely place too start, Its stuffed inside so I forgot it was even there. I will get rid of it immediatly, as a start, and watch him for two more days. If he does not clear it out himself I will get the fishin pole out and help him along, then watch and see if he gets it again.

Thank you so much.. hopefully this will fix it.

AAAANNNNDDDD he is the one that hangs out in there ALL the time. Wonder if was trying too redecorate and swallowed some. Hopefully it will not clog his system. Like I said hes eating fine, or should I pull it ASAP instead of waiting? Guess it can only go down, and that cant be a good thing.
