Xavier's 120 Gallon Journal

OHH MAN! Lots to update. not sure what happened on what day so lets give it a shot

Last you knew I had just got the lights hung up. That was the 13th.

12/14/11
WENT TO THE WHOLESALERS! First time in my life, and I dont know how I had been missing out for so long.
Let the flaming begin! I bought
-Powder Blue Tang
-Melanarus Wrasse
-14 Sm. Chromis
-Diamond Goby
-Orange Ricordia
-Large Zoanthid Rock (with a surprise growing)
-Purple w/ Red Polkadots Mushroom Rock
-Hammer Frag
-12 Snails
-12 Hermit Crabs

Then Danny got some stuff too, and is keeping it in my tank for a while.

I KNOW I KNOW. I had to buy a certain amount so I did..

So far, everything is living except for 3 of the Chromis (I bought more knowing some would die inevitably)

Didnt do anything substantial to the tank since then. Lots of studying for finals, and a lot of work. Not too much fish time.

But then today (technically yesterday)

12/19/11-12/20/11:
-Filter socks came in the mail, so I finally had some way to catch particulates that had been floating around freely! Tank looks much better already, with a lot still to catch.

-Bought new fish! Cause I am an ADDICT, and I know I shouldnt, but cant help myself.
-Swissgard Basslet, but is probably a candy Basslet because it is unbelievably gorgeous for a Swissgard.
-Pink Streak Wrasse (Cryptic Sixline) Just cause he looked really healthy, and again, Im an addict.

He also threw in a small frag of photosynthetic gorgonian!

Then I drove up to Palos Verdes area for a refractometer, Thanks again Maureen!!!! SO MUCH THANKS!

So I think I am pretty much set for now. Get everything dialed in, then start buying more corals.

Wow... I've missed A LOT not being on here for the last couple of days!

Hope everything works out... that's a lot of bio-load to put in a new tank. I would just keep your eye on your levels to make sure they don't spike dramatically (especially since the PBT are sensitive little guys).

Good luck!

Looking good, buddy. I need to come by and check out those fishies. Also, a sunday coral day sounds pretty good, we should do that. Let me check w/ my social planner.

Also, I am beginning to think that your mom texted me. (on accident)

Things look awesome and I love the powder blue!! Great job on everything!!!
Thank you! He is my favorite fish by far, but we will see if he makes it past a month.

Thanks Chad, and youre right about the bioload. It has been a lot for a new tank, and I should have gone slower. I am checking parameters constantly, and about to do a pretty big water change to get everything back to zeros. I am showing about 25 ppm of nitrates and I am getting a diatom bloom throughout the tank. gotta nip it before it grows

Haha social planner. Tell your "social planner" that I would love if she made dinner on sunday :) haha

Come over anytime. I need to nerd out with someone, all my "regular" friends are getting fed up with me talking about phosphates and the pros and cons of flake food vs pellets. haha

We actually got Harbor House on Christmas last year, it was awesome and basically the only place open in town, so we might do that again lol.

Yeah my friends are getting sick of me talking about copepods and bristleworms too so I think a nerd-out day might be good.

Haha Harbor House after a good couple of eggnogs might be a lot of fun!

I will try to get one: he has been hiding nonstop since he was introduced.

Unfortunately, my melanarus wrasse was not a fan of the smaller, and more fragile, cryptic six line. And I found him today gasping on the sand bed. I tried to catch him to put him in the overflow box to recover and he swam back into the rocks. I do not expect him to make it through the day
