has anyone seen a setup using just xenia as a filter , ive heard a couple stories about people using xenia as afilter instead of protein skimmers ande haveing phenomonal suucess because the xenia doesnt take out the good stuff that protein skimmers do.
seemed like an interesting concept to me i know that xenia do filter out nitrates but also know that xenia dont grow well under high nitrate coniditions
BOOM!!! ...another thing for me to test at school! We are setting up the sumps right now. I think I'll have a xenia along with a refugium in it. One less skimmer to try to find/buy.
from observations in my tank - right after having to move an established tank and sandbed, i had a couple of nitrate spikes and while my other corals just looked a bit sad the xenia and mushrooms spread much quicker and just looked fuller
