Xenia Under NO Fluorescents?

I thought Xenia were fairly demanding of light. But strangely, they seem to be surviving under normal output fluorescents. I wanted to give the new puffer some caves to play around in so I removed some of the rock that I had crammed into my 55G and put it back into the 150G. Some Xenia had spread onto the rocks I had moved - I assumed that it would just melt away, but it actually looks really good. Any predictions on whether or not it will last?

My prediction is that it will die eventually or the puffer will eat it but keep us posted.

yeah i believe the water chemistry is so on for them they are looking well but as time passes they'll crash. if the puffer doesnt get'em let us know how they fair. could be a good example for us to think about if they survive! interesting again keep us updated for sure.

sounds like a good experiment to me. Not much is known about what they eat, so the presumption is they are largely photosynthetic- but they also have done will in tanks of mine with higher nutrient levels..... Keep us updated.

I've had 4 stalks of Xenia in my 55g Refugium under two HD 65W bulbs for about 4 motnhs now and they are doing extremely well. Color is actually pink, pumping well.

I do not feed the fuge, though obviously there is tank spill over as well as pods it may be feasting on ( though I doubt the pods?)

Just an update on the xenia...

(been having a busy summer so I have not been following any of the latest discussions)

The Xenia are still alive under the NO lighting - this makes several months much to my surprise. I would not say that it is thriving, but it continues to pulse and the puffer has not eaten it.
