Xenia, Xenia, and MORE Xenia, need control/elimination ideas

From what I gather, and from personal first hand knowlege, he would not be saddened if it all died tomorrow (and didnt harm his other coral). I used to throw handfulls of that stuff in the yard on a very regular basis.

it it were me i'd take it out and get credit at the LFS....ya never know when later on ya can use it...even if its to just get new lights....i know for a fact that chris at AC would take it cause he has gotten it from some other members too

They will take it but will not give you much if anything for it as it's just a weed that not many people buy. JMO

but its better then just tossing it :D,i'd toss it into a tank that just has frags or something or even a bucket lol and when ya are ready to go by AC ya can take it with ya so ya not just going to give out a weed to a LFS lol i'd take some but i already have some and mines not growing like that.....um..i'd take a big rock of it and see what it does in my tank

AC does take it, and they give ya a fair amount for it. Most of the fish in my tank and some hardware were purchased by Xenia credit.

You'd be shocked at what people are paying for "the weed" at AC, it goes very fast there...

I agree. they do pay well for it. I used to support my habits with it. it must be mounted for them to take it though.

yes, some consider it a weed, but lots of newbies really go after it because of its movement. it is also relatively easy to keep.

I took everything out of my tank yesterday to add more rock, and had to deal with my own xenia invasion. My solution was a hammer and chisel. It was painful and time consuming, but I think i got it all off of the rock work. I kept the big pieces to take for store credit now and setup a nano tank to grow out the rest on to rubble for store credit later.

So is the moral of this story to not buy Xenia? The reason I ask, is because its on our "want to get" list. If its truely something to avoid, I need to relay that to my husband, who might very well simply show up at home with some of it... thinking he's doing something nice. LOL

Somehow that's always the coral I kill....Either melted away, pump drop on top of it or something. I used to have a beautiful blue one along with the pink one. The darn pump fell on top of it when I wasn't home and killed off both of them. Xenia don't like me very much...lol I grow caps, candy cane, mushrooms, frogspawn, and leathers like no tomorrow though.....

I love xenia, I actually have an island area in my tank to keep it, it looks really good in that area.

love to have space for an island :D but mine is on some dead coral and i keep an eye on its growing and so far so good :D like to get more actually and a blue one sounds cool though i'd be happy with more pink :D

If you are trying to control it one thing is that Phosphates can feed it. it will actually consume phosphates so if you are having trouble controlling it check for Phosphates before and after trimming. Get a 2 little phishes phos reactor and this can sometimes starve it off. Not allways or entirely but I know more than one person that keeps it in the sump for this reason.
