XL Squamosa Clam Spawn

not as much as expected, but did get a little reaction.

Did a small water change the next morning, and have another ready for the weekend.

Also changed some carbon right after it happened, and again tonight (spawn occurred Monday)

I had a 10 inch squamosa that also spawned recently (on 12/17). Must have been the right moon phase or something. It turned the tank milk white. And to boot, we had a power outage for several hours (glad I got that generator last year). Unfortunately, it did not recover and died today. Bummer. Had it for over six years (from 3 inches). Guess it was too much stress for it. I hope yours recovers just fine. Let us know. Did you see only sperm, or did some eggs get released also?

do you know why it spawned??

in our tanks it is usually a survival instinct?? ( unless your lighting follows the lunar cycles ) have you changed anything or moved the clam?

I had added some extra current to the tank a week prior, also I had adjusted my SG by 0.003 on the weekend...not sure if any of this could have been the trigger.

depending on how fast you adjusted ( + or - ) the SG, it may have caused it.

what is your SG now?

i would double check all your params, just to make sure there isn't something else wrong.

was adjusted over 2 days, and it is 1.025 now.

Everything looks fine in the tank now going on 3 days after the spawn.

Wow, Quinster, that's funny, because I also just added some better water flow on Saturday (EcoTech pump). Hmmmm........Increased flow on Saturday, spawned on Monday. Could be a correlation in the making. Anyway, glad to see everything is ok with your clam. Mine may have been affected by the power outage more than originally thought. Cannot figure any other reason for its quick decline. Other clams in the tank are just fine, though they did not spawn.

I have a 6-8" squamosa that did the same thing after i did a heavy dose of B-ionic to bring the alk up after the ca reactor went down for a while. More than I should have used and probably stressed the clam. Spewed for at least two hours every 3 minutes. 5-6 pulses each time. It was pretty amazing. I was shocked at the quantity of spawn and how long it lasted. I did a water change the next day and the corals looked a little stressed for a week or so, but everything did fine.
