both yashi gobies that i have owned like to go MIA for weeks at a time. they reappear a bit thinner ,but in good heath. i've kept them with pistol shrimp and without. normally they are shy, but seldom miss a meal. i was just wondering if this is normal behavior ? maybe guarding a nest? - thanks

gobies with shrimps tend to go missing alot. Mine went missing for a year once, thought he was dead.. but appeared out of nowhere from a burrow. With the shrimp pair, they will hide in the burrows and seldom come out to eat.

Yes, that is completely normal behavior. It may have a burrow entrance in the back of the tank where you can't see, that it prefers to hang out in.

Mine never disappeared like that until they croaked. They were always out to eat when it was time. Even when they had their burrow in the back I could see them come out and eat. Do you have fast moving fish in the tank? It could be intimidating them.

IME, it might be the shrimp. My first tiger pistol shrimp along with my current yellow goby would always be out and about. Unfortunately my first pistol past away with freak kalk accident. I got another tiger pistol that is never out of it's burrow - therefore the goby isn't out either.

This is in the refuge with just two clowns.

Mine was with a candy cane pistol. Red and white striped with yellow antennae.
