Yellow boxfish eating vermetid snails?

Ok, so first the confession... today I made an impulse buy. A yellow boxfish... I know, I know.

Anyhoo, here's the question... I released it into the QT and it immediately started munching on vermetid snails.

I guess it makes sense, given their natural prey, but just wondered if this was common, or do I just have an odd one?

I posted this on UR too... before anyone asks, yes I know about the toxin, yes the tank is big enough and yes I know it's going to eat anything with a shell...

Thanks :)

Like many other people on here I have always heard of "this fish is eating vermitid snails" but rarely is one proven to actually eat them. I would love to see a video of your boxfish eating them. Not many things prey on vermitids even though many many fish are rumored to eat them.

Didn't manage to get a vid. Seems it was just testing them, or it realised there was more tasty fare if it just waited! It got the population down a great deal but has stopped munching them now. If it wasn't such a danger to stress him I'd be tempted to try to train to eat vermetids by putting back into qt and feeding only them for a few weeks...
