Yellow headed jawfish behavior ??

Ok... Never had a jawfish before so just curious if the following behavior is normal.

Jawfish was out of QT on Tuesday afternoon and into the 60g DT. Did a long drip acclimation just to be sure but parameters where nearly identical mins a slight variation in pH.

Tank mates are park of clowns, Midas blenny and a Christmas wrasse.

That first evening he began building his caves and continued to do so until today. He snuck out of his caves during feed a few times and while I attempted to target feed be seemed wary of the feeding tube.

Long story short.... he is just handing out side of his caves and seems to be just "people watching." Breathing and movement all see normal. My gut says he is fine and just outgoing enough to be comfortable in the tank already.

Any opinions or thoughts?

Yellow headed jawfish behavior ??

Figure I would share this humorous story about our newly acquired jawfish. This literally just happened.

House is all quiet....so I head down stairs to the basement to run my weekly parameters check. I have a 60cube with a 75g basement sump. Once I am done I come back up to check the tank and I hear a slash. I am subsequently struck in the face by a roundhouse jawfish flipper kick! I immediately step back to turn on the lights. As I move toward the light switch I step on something squishy..... (Don't worry it was a balloon from one of the kids) however I assumed it was the jawfish!

With the lights now ON.... I grab a towel to pick up what I am sure is a complete mess! I suddenly realize I stepped on a ballon and flip the jawfish back into the tank. Fingered crossed he is ok ! The jawfish looks horrified right now... We'll see how he looms tomorrow!

While i have a glass top.... I will be looking for new secure lid ASAP! Until then I have put some masking tape around the edges.

It was lucky and funny... But it will a miracle and hilarious if the jawfish is no worse for the wear.

I had a zebra danio slap me in the face once. Always a bit of a shock.
I've had multiple small fish leap out, smack onto the floor, and be just fine after being put back in the tank. If you got the jawfish back into the tank within a minute, I'm sure he'll be okay.

Not even a 1/4 of an inch.... He threaded the needle on that jump. Pretty impressed really.... Luckily the jawfish is fine and has calmed down significantly since then

Some fish can aim very well when jumping.
But most of the time they just slide up along the aquarium corner. And unfortunately there the gap in the cover is often wider due to rounded cover edges. Alone for that reason I don't like rimless tanks and rather have eurobracing all around.
