Yellow Tang Split Fin question

I was night watching my tank a few minutes ago- and noticed my yellow tang had 2 splits in his top fin- I dont think he is being picked on- but it might be the fisher's angelfish doing it.

Is this something to be concerned about? Hes not missing any of his fin, he just has two splits in it. Will it grow back and how long will it take? Does this happen often?

My yellow tang is lowest in the pecking order and he gets his fins split at times from the other fish. So long as the fin isn't split all the way to the body it will heal quickly. Maybe in just a couple of days.

If it's just a small split - the most obvious cause is aggression from other fish (aka fin nip). If you water quality is good and your fish are healthy and well fed the fin should repair itself relatively quickly (cf days-week). I wouldn't worry about it too much, but would keep an eye on your fish (and their social behaviour). If the fin takes on a ragged appearance, however, this is different and suggestive of poor water quality and/or possible infections (from fungus/bacteria). What is import to note is that fin rot is often started by aggression and in particular fin nips.

Hope this helps.

its only about 1/2 way to his body- he is still doing what tangs do and isnt scared of the angel-

He has had a white cotten ball at the top of his top fin since he was put in the QT a week ago. Ive been watching it- hasnt grown bigger or spread. I dosed my tank with anti-bacteria to help out an injured goby- and I went ahead and dosed it for fungus for him.
