Panic, terror, fear ! I don't know what to do, haven't a clue actually Links, info, refernces please. Do I pull the nest or leave it? If I pull it I assume a kreisel is best? It's right out in the open, easy to take if I want. It's huge too

Finally! About time they got back on the wagon.

The only reason I used a kreisel was because the nest was falling down. Ideally, you could just move their whole flowerpot and use air, but if you have a good kreisel, that will work, too. Or let papa take care of them and snag them when they hatch.

Here's your homework. Better hurry, they always hatched the morning of the 5th day before lights on.

For inquiring minds, yes, Lad is still fine. He's in my current reef (15g nano) with two of my clown babies. Still tiny -- smaller than you'd ever see for sale in a store -- but perfect and apparently healthy. He has been growing a bit faster since going in the reef, I think, so either the environmental enrichment or the copepods are good for him. He's 10 1/2 months old now, and I still have no idea why he's such a runt.

Interesting that Lad is so bright yellow while mom & dad are both grey. Or is that just a sign of old age? :lol:

It may be hormonal. Or environmental. Dad was bright yellow for a long time even when they were spawning -- I have no idea why he also turned gray. Mom turned gray immediately when they paired and gray female/yellow male seems to be the usual coloring of pairs, but not always.

Both probably have another 6 productive years in them, so they are "old" yet. I guess we'll have to save the gray joke for those of us with legs.

Downsized, both the tank and my lifestyle and the amount of money I was pumping into the economy. David has my pairs, and I hope they are going gangbusters for him. I do miss my old fish.

Actually, I am getting ready to move back east in a few weeks. If I can sell my %#$#@! condo, I'll be able to pretty much settle in debt free and keep my current job by being a telecommuter. Sweet deal if you can get it.

If I don't unload my condo, I'll be paying a mortgage in California. Ugh.

Hmm..., don't know what it's like in Orange but here in SD it is a very BAD time to sell. I can't imagine it's much better 100 miles north. Maybe rent it out and wait for the market to shift?

The goby nest is half the size today that it was last night. If I have time I'm gonna pull it, just have about 3 gazillion chores to finish up first. Not the least of them is dipping this damned brook infested wc clarkii again. It's just too nice a fish to let it go.

I only read the first page of that thread so far but I'm getting the impression s-strain is required? If so they will go hungry at my house I get a fair number of rots passing thru the 55 mesh screen so I'll try those.

Edgar, think I should use RH? I'm thinking yes.

No, S-strain is not required although it may improve survival rates. Alan and Amy use s-strain. These babies are SMALL -- but Lad grew up on enriched L-strain.

Seems strange you lost half the nest. I never lost HALF of one -- either the whole thing fell down or not. Well, they are out of practice, so maybe part fell down and they ate it.

I won't rent out because I would lose money renting it, especially after hiring a property manager, and the place is very nice and it won't sell in my area if it's been not cared for. Nor will it sell with a renter in it. I'll just have to eat it for a while.

Yeah, the market is bad everywhere. In addition to the seasonal slowing, it's just getting over saturated. Not many folks looking right now. As of yesterday, I'm offering to holdback 10% of the loan for buyers who are borderline qualifying. It's risky since I'll be in second position after the first mortgage, but potentially a very good investment payback. And as an entry level property it opens up some potential buyers.

The nest was very long and sort of stringy, it's the bottom part that's missing. It was virtually dragging on the ground so may have just worn loose. I'm still going to try and get to it later today.

David it would not hurt, just add 2 drops /liter of water so you don't kill the rots and rinse before you feed to avoid oil into the larval tank.

I never pulled the nest, too many other chores and o's come first around here. The nest is gone this morning, day 4. No sign of the eggs or any larvae. As of last night it was a little less than half it's original size. Next time I'll try to get on it sooner

6 weeks? That's odd. They are usually every 4 weeks.

If you are gone for 4 days you *might* be able to snag the eggs the 5th morning right before lights on, assuming that part is still on schedule.
