Yellowtail Blue Damselfish: your experience?

There are about 4-5 different species of yellow tail damsels & they are not all the same in temprement.

In order to get any good info you have to denfine the species you're talking about or at least show a picture.

I had a school (12) of them in a pass tank. For a damsel they where pretty peaceful, little territorial, but never bothered any other fish.

They made the tank look more nautral and I had many more comments on them than some of my angels and rarer fish.

btw, I'm reading every comment and taking them into consideration. I'm on the fence, still, though leaning toward no. I don't see myself adding any more fish to this tank due to its size- but if I upgrade these would be the first inhabitants in the new one and that might become a problem for adding docile fish. They already have to go through the ocellaris' initiation. They are not a peaceful couple at first.

Thanks,
Angela

Newreef,

Sorry to hear you decided against Chrysiptera parasema. Scott Michael rates the following Chrysiptera spp. as true pacifists: C. hemicyanea, C. parasema, C. springeri, and C. talboti. All but the last are chiefly blue.

Hi Elysia,

Don't feel too bad for me... I did get a lovely african flameback angel that I'm quite happy with as my last addition:)

Regardless of what some person rates the fish, it's been quite a diverse experience for the RC members that posted. I don't want an aggressive fish- even if it's the least aggressive of the aggressors;)

ciao,
Angela

My yellow tail is the sissy of my tank! I actually have 3 damsels, an occy and 2 clown gobies in my 20 gallon tank.... The occy and her 3 stripe damsel buddy run the show (they share a cave even lol).

All my fish swim the tank quite nice with little aggression, whenever theres a little fight the yellow tail hurries to his hole in the rock...even when he isn't the one being bullied

I had a couple of percs along side of a yt blue damsel. The damsel was mean, and quite territorial, he left my clowns alone for the most part (anemone) but he used to chase my flame angel and my coral beauty angels and get in fights with them. They would win, lol, he would get all tattered fighting with them but he never ztstopped trying to bully them around. Needless to say out came the damsel and into my other tank. Bullying little bugger. :-)

IMO, it's too bad you decided against the YT. Mine is 5 years old. It is the fish that I regretfully cycled my tank with. He doesn't bother anyone. I have a royal gramma, yellow tang, 2 OC. clowns a Talbots damsel and a 6 line wrass. I guess I'm lucky because my tank is full of nothing but LOVE LOL!!
