Yet Another Cracked Tank Thread

I'm starting to think this hobby doesn't like me. Whatever the case, I arrived home late Saturday night to find the left small panel of my 55G tank cracked and slowly leaking water. Fortunately, there was plenty of water left inside so everything was still in good condition.

On the bright side of things, I have recent experience with this and quickly moved all corals, fish, etc, into two black rubbermade tubs. We added heaters, powerheads, etc. I was even able to put the canopy across the two tubs so things are well lit.

I'll post a picture sometime soon. It's relatively comical looking.

As for the cause of the crack. I had installed a horizontal overflow in the back of the tank that extended clear from the left to the right side. I am pretty certain that the acrylic expanded and caused the tank wall to crack. Oops - Won't design it like that again.

Anyhow. For now critters are going to live as is. I might get a single larger ub from the local farm supply store sometime in the immediate future so that I can put sand on the bottom and merge everything into one tank. But beyond that, I don't have the bandwidth timewise to worry much further. I think I can create a pretty healthy environment as such for now until I either have time to repair the tank or manage to find an affordable new tank.

I'm not too concerned for now. :)

It's good to see that you didn't have another disaster. I'll keep an eye out for you on a new tank. Shoot me a PM with what you are looking for.

Frustrating hobby this is.

I would like to nominate this for understatement of the year. :)

Ouch, it is upsetting for sure. Lucky you caught it when you did, a room full of saltwater and livestock would definately be depressing to say the least.
Understatement of the year? Yep, gets my vote.
