I have a tank that is 24" deep and I REALLY want to keep a maxima clam on my sand bed. Would a 250 watt 10k MH and 300 watts vho (its a cube tank) provide enough energy for it to thrive?
I think it would be fine. Croceas and maximas like the rock anyway so if your depth is a problem, you could always raise it up into the rock work. I have a crocea about 10 inches down on a ledge and the MH's are 8" off the water. Mine couldn't seem to get comfortable on the sand. good luck
lots of people keep maximas and croceas on the sand with no problem. Mine just kept moving and adjusting so much I thought I'd try him where he is now, he attached right away. Derasa and squamosa are a couple other ones and I think they are commonly sandbed dwellers.
No problem at all.....a maxima would likely be totally ok on the sandbed with that light. And, as said above it can always be moved to the rocks....they dig it there as well.
No matter where the clam goes, place it on a small piece of shell or rock so it can attach (important for it to attach!), and you can still move it if/when nevessary.
