yet another recommendation

I am setting up a 40 gallon tank, 36"x18"x16". SPS and Clams are a priority. Can you recommend a setup? I want to run 2 pumps with a wavemaker obviously. I really couldn't make sense of the website..

Thanks,
KRIS

Your aquarium is a bit small. This concerns me not from a flow stand point as we can work their but from a bulk of pumps stand point. For this reason I would be inclined to recommend the top mounted 2002 motors. These motors are not as visible in the aquarium, however you will hear the air cooling fan noise- a low hum, similar to the cooling fan on your computer. You will also need to change the bearings every few years. The 2002 pumps are very well built and with regular service every couple years can last indefinitely, however it is an expensive option compared to an Electronic pump as the control mechanism is more complicated and more expenisve, you would need 7082/2 which runs about $250 in addition to the pumps at $200 a piece. An alternate suggestion would be to use 1 7210/2 which would cost a total of $200 and includes the controller, these pumps are roughly the size of a Hagen 802. You could use this in conjuction with a SeaSwirl on your return or just a broad return jet and achieve good flow. You could use 2 7200/2 and a multicontroller 7094 but this would be a lot of pump to hide. Heat would not be a concern as these pumps use only 12W and are very energy efiicient. It will be your decision but in smaller set ups the top mounted pumps offer the advantage of being more hideable.

I'm look a little more at the website and the turbelle streams are more of what I'm after.

I'm thinking (2) 6080_000 turbelle streams and (1) 7094 controller. Will this work? Also, what is the best way to mount them? Both on the back wall or 1 on the back and 1 on the side?

Thanks,
KRIS

I don't think a Stream is appropriate for this tank. Further the 6080 and 6060 is not compatible with the 7094 controller or any controller for that matter. The 6000 or 6100 are the controller compatible pumps, these pumps are designated Electronic as they have a computer and operate on low voltage. The broad flow even on low power will make a snow storm out of your substrate. These pump are really for aquariums of at least 60gallons and even then it has to be reasonably deep and almost all SPS. The 7210/2 would be the better choice. The flow is broad as it exits a 1" nozzle. The 2002 is the same. The Stream units simply require more tank to be practical.
