Yet another TTM Ich question

fish have been in qt for 11 days now planning on starting TTM on sat or sub for 12 days. I've got 2 -20 long and a stand that holds both one above the other. I am not using hoods but some of the comments say ich can get airborne and infect other tanks. I was planning on filling the bottom tank which is currently empty today or tomorrow. Do I need a cover? Will a cover prevent airborne ich. How common is this. Don't really want to buy a cover but will if need be.

Thanks in advance. Steve.

Yeah, I'm curious about this airborne deal as well. Sounds insane.

As far as one tank under another, I would avoid that with or without lids. Too much risk of something dropping into the lower tank, especially when your draining the top tank. I would figure something else out.

As far as lids, I use cut to fit eggcrate from Lowes. Cheep and effective.

Ok thx

The jumping fish isn't a concern because of the level I'm keeping the water and the fish type.

Would be terrible to do all the right qt procedures and have it not work because of the airborne concerns.

I've already got the setup and I'll just have to be careful. Besides the level of the water I also have eggcrate on it as well.

I can see where it could happen given two open spray-emitting systems close enough, or nets or such left lying where spray could fall on them. A lid is not a bad thing, but it could be a piece of cardboard, anything that won't let spray from one tank hit another. Wet hands and refractometers and nets are a less exotic and probably far more common means of travel. Tired people do (facepalm) things in a crisis they sanely know better than.

Yeah I'll probably try to repurpose my 40g breeder lid that is collecting dust for the bottom tank. I just did a diy fix on my sponge filter eliminate spray which should help too.

Thanks
