I have 2 tunze 6060 in my dt and they are the main flow in there well the other day I reached my hand in and got zapped :( went through a process of elimination to figure out what it was with my voltmeter and it showed to be both of the tunze 6060 pumps :(

one is almost new less then 2 months old and the other age is unknown got it used people on another site told me to come here and ask what you may be able to do here

This would be very unusual. Keep in mind the 6060 is grounded and the configuration of the ground allows it to ground other sources of stray voltage and complete a circuit. You could try the same test with a voltmeter in a seperate plastic bucket to confirm but when this has come up before it was not the pumps, it was another appliance, the pumps just completed the circuit due to possessing an internal ground strap. You are welcome to send them in and if it is indeed the pumps and it is not due to a cut cord and they are less than 2 years old they would be replaced under warranty.

I will test in a separate bucket which is easy enough since I am making some water change water right now any way

will update you after the test

is there a way to tell how old the pump is without the receipt such as a serial number or date code some where on the pump

marc

There is a date code on the pump, it is on the back between the swivel arm and label. It is 3 digits that decode as series quarter year, so 127 for example is 1st series, 2nd quarter, 2007.

ok another question as it seems that it may be my power strip back feeding voltage through the ground and will be replaced asap

but why would the electricity leak from the ground in the pump to the tank I thought this should have been shielded against

The ground strap is partially exposed and is designed to form a quick path to ground if the potting around the coil ruptures. It was an older way of building a pump and was discontinued in the 6065 which is now ungrounded. While it added to the overall safety of the pump these sort of unintended consequences could occur.

I appreciate your help glad I tested on a separate plug without that power strip

that would also explain why my tunze return pump and all the other grounded pumps I have aren't causing the feedback
