Yoccm's 300G DD In Wall Build

Well .... Bad news and good news

The bad news ...Our sump pump failed and our basement flooded!

The good news ... I think it has convinced my wife we should invest in a whole house generator.

While the flood wasn't due to power outage we have replaced it with a better redundant system but still have some risk if power does go out. I have really wanted to do this to protect the tank but didn't think I would ever get the wife to make the investment but looks like it might be a go!

The flood wasn't terrible. The water came up thru the cement seams given the water pressure in the drain tiles. Mostly wet carpet. Had a crew come out and pull up carpet, remove padding and spray disinfectant. they are running 15 industrial fans and several large dehumidifies. They will come back later this week and repad and restretch the carpet. Probably about 2K in damage.

The tank was fine. No water in that area of the room.

I'll give an update if we go for the whole house generator.

Unless you have flood ins. if the water comes from outside (rain, snow, ground water) home owners ins. will not cover damage. He said the water came up through the concrete seams, this would not be covered by almost all homeowners ins.

so what do you mean "the sump failed"? It cracked? busted a seam, ???

The motor gave out. My dumb mistake .... I did not have an emergency back up! I do now! Once it stopped pumping the tile drains got overwhelmed and the water pressure pushed water up through the seams in the basement floor around the perimeter. Recovery crew came and pulled out all the wet padding, pulled off base molding and dried carpet with fans. They are here today reinstalling padding and restrectching carpet.

Overall I got off lucky!

Man thats gotta suck. Wont the insurance cover that? mine does.

I did read that. I was asking because I have it in my policy.

Sent from my reef tank and my skim doesn't stink.

We actually have an extra rider on our homeowners that covers sump pump failure. The deductible is higher ... $1,000 but we are at least covered. The bill from the crew that cleaned up is around $3,000 so it helped a lot to get insurance coverage!

Awesome tank, especially the way you arranged the rockwork.

Thanks!

I am really happy with the dry rock I got from BRS. The different shapes of Tonga branch, shelf and Pukani made putting the structures together pretty easy.

It was a lot of work to build it but the threaded nylon rods and nuts worked great. The biggest challenge was getting up and into the tank.

Now that things are starting to grow in more and coralline has encrusted most of it I am getting happier and happier with the results.

I have a cantelope sized piece of Pukani curing now that I plan on drilling with holes to take frag plugs. I want to cover it with a bunch of different Acan colonies as a nice stand alone show piece on the sand bed.
