You know your tank runs your life when you froze through the ice storm of 1994 and did nothing about it; you melted in the sweltering heat following Hurricane Elvis and did nothing about it; but once you become a reefer you worry so much about the well being of your critters you take extraordinary steps to make sure they'll never be without power. Briggs and Stratton to the rescue. Ten seconds after the power goes out, the generator cranks and runs the whole house (and I get to stay cool or warm as the case may be.) Ain't technology great!

Those things are awesome! Only real drawback nowadays is the price of gas.

yeah, but the peace of mind you get knowing that your finned friends will be safe in their little watery world would definitely be worth it.... not to mention your own comfort... :)

I want one. I'll trade you a frag of the coral you were asking about for one. Sound fair???

How could I resist an offer like that?

The installation still has a bit to go. MLGW has to install a larger capacity gas meter, the county has to inspect the gas line, and then the electrician will wire everything. It should be running by the middle of next week.

Is it hard wired with auto start? I sure would like to have one of them.

Yes and yes. Once it detects a power outage, it counts to ten, starts, and comes online when the voltage stabilizes. Everything is back running in less than thirty seconds.

And yes, it's bolted down securely.

Awright Steve, even despite the fact that MY tag-line says that "I'm out of control"....... You win.

Of course, you wouldn't need that bloody thing, if you weren't running THREE (3x!) 400 Watt MH's to simulate Cozumel at High Noon!

Dude!

I guess this acquisition just follows the old adage, "he who dies with the most toys wins."

(I just hope I have at least thirty years to keep acquiring.)

Peachy,
My son said he was happy to hear you bought it to keep his freshwater angelfish safe when the power goes out:D

I bet this is the first reef purchase you wife actually agreed to!!

Yes, we'll be a house full of happy critters when the power goes off, although my wife thinks now that we've spent the money MLGW will set a record for power-on reliability.

I went to the other thread, Marty, and added a bit to their discussion. It sounds a lot like the debate I was having with myself before I finally took the plunge.

I'm still debating over the Cost of a Controller & Chiller. (Okay, the Chiller is a must have....)

But a GenSet for your reef tank??? Dude, are you kidding?

Have you ever consdiered building your own Home Built Aircraft? They're a money pit too.

Qualification: a $12,000 GenSet for your reef tank....

Not questioning the requirement, only the KW's.

In the Dictionary under "OverKill", it says, "See Nagasaki".
