Your biggest yuma

Hi everyone,

Just curious about the size of your full grown yumas. How big are they?

I have kept and seen others that are about 6" or 15cm. I have one ATM a lot bigger than this and can post a photo if anyones interested. So I was wondering what the maximum sizes of these are in captivity?

Realise its a crappy photo... It was taken about an hour after lights on. Still expanding when taken, but later in the day it will consistently measure 20cm across.

I'm pretty sure this isn't unique, but am very curious about the maximum sizes yumas can reach. In this case, I got it when it was about 9cm and started feeding regularly. Its only grown about 2cm in the past 6 months or so, since I stopped feeding. I'm thinking of starting feeding again to see if it can grow a bit bigger.

yeah I feed mine when they will take food. It helps hugely. Thats a gorgeous yuma you have there. Mine have caught and eaten stomatellas on many occasions. Wonder what yours catches when your not looking. I have two that have almost reached five inches.

Thanks for your comments guys....but I'm still hoping to hear from folks with similar sized yumas and if you feed, what you feed them with.

Anyhow, I've decided to recommence feeding to see if I can get him a bit bigger. Will post back in a couple of months if theres any noticeable growth.

I mainly feed mysis. Babies or very sick ones that are on the mend I feed rods reef coral blend. They also eat whatever the fish miss if it happens to land on them. They also catch stomatellas of which I have tons. Lots of little shells around my big yumas.

Im Calling this one 5 inches ...I feed the larger stuff thats left in my cup (rods Food) Once it starts closing on the food i baste him full..My yuma just split 5x ate the base and its on the move again..she is a babymaker !!!

Just curious... When you say it split 5 times, do you mean through longitudinal fission?

Or do you mean its dropped babies as the foot walks, ie leaving bits of its' foot that develop into baby yumas?

I've only had the former twice, and each time the yuma has grown an extra mouth preceding the split.

Actually the foot stretched, then retracted back leaving them behind..now its walking of the rock it was on.The rock is kinda weird its on..Like a shower curtain ring only a bit larger, and the foot is(Was) wrapped all the way around and attached to the edges of the foot itself< tired hope this makes sence.

I have one that is around 5-6" or so. It walks around and drops babies so now I have about 6 or so yumas from it.

EDIT: Forgot I have a pic of it.

I used to have a million of these until one day they all melted away. They used to drop babies like crazy I couldn't give them away fast enough now I don't have any left :sad2: The largest was just shy of 4" across.

Only thing I could think of that caused the melt down was I tried to move a large devils hand and it slimmed up real bad. That might have been the chemical warfare that triggered the meltdown but it is just a theory.

Whoah. Thanks for this thread. I used to find them extremely pretty, but now I will refrain from getting one.

Partly because if I introduced something this size to my nano, I could take everything else out.

Plus - I am a snail fan, and very fond of my Stomatellas. :-)

Great pictures, though!
