Your favorite Reef Safe Dwarf Angelfish?

Another vote for cherub. I have always had one in each of my reef tank and they're great fish. Constantly swimming and munching on the rocks. Never bothers anyone and always a good eater..frozen, flake, whatever..it eats it.

I have a Brazilian Flameback in my 70 gal. with Kole Tang, four Blue-Green Chromis and two Onyx Perculas. everyone gets along great and the angel has never eaten anything but algae and the food I feed the tank.

IMHO there's no such thing as a 'reef-safe' Centropyge angel. They're a gamble - some nip corals, some don't, and some start after years of ignoring the corals. The risk is worth it to me, they're wonderful fish.
I've got a flame, a coral beauty and a cherub in my 65g, all well behaved but there are occasional incidents of nipping that do no noticable damage, and a white-tailed pygmy in my 30g who doesn't even look at the corals. The cherub is probably my favourite of the bunch, he's such a spunky little guy and has the most adorable face - he could eat every coral in the tank and I'd forgive him :)

I think people are overly negative about dwarfs. There was a poll about a week or two ago, and it was something along the line of 70% no problems, 20% it nipped occasionally, but didnt hurt anything, and 10% It bothered something bad.

If what fade32 took a picture of is a flameback, my LFS has them, but they call them Potter's Angle. Is that another name for them?

I ask because that is my favorite I look at them every time I go in there...you know, 4 times a week!!!!

No they're not the same.

I've had a good experience with two golden angels, in separate SPS systems. Never bothered my SPS or other corals.

These fish should be the only angel in the system. They tend to be incredibly shy for a long time, but eventually become less secretive although this process can take several months.

They tend to live very well off the rocks, and stay fat. Eventually mine learned to rush out during feeding time and snap up food, even flake and pellets, although again, this took months.

And best of all, they look incredible.

POTTER'S!!! I think they're also risk, but mostly because of collection techniques. They're so hardy and willing to eat (what YOU want them to eat!) if they'e collected right.

I say Potter's all the way, especially the rare blue-black Potter's...

my favorite reef safe dwarf angelfish is one that doesn't exist. i would never put another in a reef tank.

I thought I was alone.

I'm with this guy. Xenia seem to be as resilient as Aiptasia.

As far as Angels, (Flame Angel aside), I think the Flameback is a beautiful dwarf angel.

Koden, like I said earlier, the countless poles done on this board prove otherwise.

IMO, theyre definitely safer than butterflies(even CBB), most blennies, and probably safer than tangs.

Some people are not fond of putting there hard work at risk by adding an Angel, which I can understand.

I took a gamble and added my Flame Angel about 6 months ago, but I haven't really invested a great deal of money in expensive corals yet. Just Zoa's and LPS.

If my tank was stocked with expensive rics and SPS, I may have not done it.

My gamble paid off though as my Flame Angel is a model citizen thus far, and has quickly become my favorite fish.

Good Luck with your decision.:)

I have a Lemon Peel Angel in my tank and think its great.

Have had it for over 3 years and has never nipped at any corals.

Great fish.

It's just the angle the fish is at in the pic. From the front, Potter's angels are predominantly orange, just like that flameback in the pic. However, they're drastically different from the side.
