Casino Point in Catalina, California it was awesome! I would recommend diving to EVERYBODY!
I think that is near if not the exact same spot where I had my second dive. It was so cool, and it was also my first dive in someplace that wasn't dark. I had only previously been diving (and certified) in underground caverns a hundred miles or so from where I live. While it was cool as hell it was another thing entirely to dive at that Avalon catalina point area. I remember just the initial visibility of that whole diving area was mind blowing to me when I entered the water.
And to the OP who asked what it's like. I've only been four times. To me it was like I was floating in space. It's one of those "incredibly calming vibe" feelings. Also, Initially I was always cold. The only thing I seemed to hear is my own breathing, and seeing the bubbles from it once in a while. And you have the feeling of being weightless. At first my breath would be fast but after a couple of minutes my breathing would slow more, and more. And you keep seeing these incredible things on rocks.
I remember at that time being 100 pounds soaking wet and having the hardest time getting my suit over certain parts of my then developing body. I can only imagine what it would be like now.
Oh...lol...I also remember the difference between being weightless in water and getting back on the boat with a tank on your back. Thank goodness someone helped me get the thing off my back so I wouldn't just dangle there on the side of the boat. lol Being the gender with less upper body strength I think the weight of the tanks actually threw me backwards in the water.
Thanks for giving me that incredible memory. The whole four times (woo hoo) i've been diving it was absolutely the most wonderful experience ever. Oddly, I've never been diving since. Seems like that was another lifetime lol.
I can't wait to read how your first dive goes.
