All the ones I have had did great for about a week or so and in the second week started to show signs of issues and by the end of the second week was a ball of slime......These all were purchased over the internet ans shipped. You might have a differant story since it was bought local. I would still start off low light and slowly move it into the bright light.

ok cool. Tom told me he had it for a month and a half already, so hopefully thats accurate. If it is, i feel a lot better about it.

Yumas are very delicate species. They don't like to be moved around, and they don't like to be touched. This is from first hand experience. Leave the yuma in a spot and hope that it likes it. If it doesn't it will move by itself. I have seen them dislodge their foot from the rock, and move to another spot.

I have soo many yumas that are multiplying, that i could easily start to sell them. But they are best when they are 2" in diameter. Small ones don't make it as they are even more delicate than their mothers.

All right bad news on the yuma front.....The big new one I got is gaping and not looking good. It has not started to melt yet or anything.....So this is what I did.....

I dipped in a iodide bath with tank water for about 15 min...The next day(today) I did a iodide bath with amino acids. But I did as well was take a turkey baster and sucked out all the slimy stuff in it and used the eyedropper from the iodide filled it and gently put it into the gaping mouth and squirted the iodide into the yuma. It then seemed to close up for most of the day and about 2 hrs before lights out it opened back up( the yuma) not the mouth. Although the mouth is still gaping a bit I plan to do the same thing tomorrow before lights come on....This way when it tries to open and suck in water to fill it it gets a high concentration of the iodide with it......More later. I plan on saving this one fingers crossed......

I did not change anything in my tank or any doseing regiments....Just out of the blue it started as usual and about the same time line as the rest of them that I have had....

bummer. hope it will pull trough. for what its worth, i had two pink yumas that did not look so hot like two weeks ago. took them out of the tank and put them in a jar full of tank water and i put about a quarter of a pill of amoxicillin for 30min. both yumas are doing ok now and one of them looks perfect healthy and the second still a bit skinny but not like it did before. good luck and keep as posted. we can all benifit from some info that might save a yuma. we all been trough it. more then id like to admit!

how long did you acclimate it? doesn't seem like you did for long because you had picture of it in the light soon after you got it. i have some that have been under cover for about a week and i don't think ill bring it out fully for another 2 weeks or so.

I did move it out into the light for about a day, then I actually moved it back into the shade.......I just didn't feel comfortable with it out in the light....I never updated on it do to time constraints and not feeling well the last week. That amoxicillin idea might be a thought as well.....I just might have some of that....

its worth a shot. mine is fully opened and looking great now. i think iodine acts in the same way, killing bacteria, but its too harsh on the yuma as well. have you been feeding it the time that it was in the shade? you think it will eat now if you try to feed it?

It was eating the entire time up untill about 5 days or so ago.....I don't think it has the capacity to eat now.....although it doesn't look better it isn't worse either....I do know there is a hole in the bottom of the foot that is directly acroos from the mouth. I have though about getting the liquid bandage that is used on fish to squirt into the area where the foot is pulled up. The foot was pulled up from the begining and don't think that had anything to do with it.....

ouch, it does not sound good bro. my two new ones just past the one week mark on Friday and i'm biting my nails every day. they still look healthy but not sure how long that will last. its frustrating because i know you want to try a million things, i try everything to save mine but sometimes you cant help but wonder if what your doing is helping it die. if the foot is mostly attached to the rock and just in one area it is disconnected i would try some of the liquid bandaid. i think if you put some crazy glue it might cause it to detach the rest of the way.

try using an antibiotic every time you take it out to dip in anything.

do you dose the tank with iodine or trace minerals?

Not on a regular basis....The only thing I dose is aminos on a regular basis....I don't dose Iodine but once in awhile I dose Iodide. Which is a less toxic form of Iodine but from what I have read is still works like Iodine when considering dips.....So far it has not gotten worse so things are right now stabile. Just need to push it in the right direction....

Let me ask this, I have had "bland" colored yumas in the past and never lost any. The LFS in my area has a lot of blands that are doing great, but the colored yumas have a 50-50 chance at best??? Whats up with that? I think it's a handling issue at the exporter obviously they get more attention with seperating, "breaking the rock to get singles" them out and so forth. I wonder if it would be better to pay the big $$ and buy a colony of several?? I would pay it. jmho.
