Zebra mantis prey capture

I have tried for years to take a high resolution photo of the moment of contact when a Lysiosquillina catches a fish. There is only a few millesecond window to catch the action. This comes pretty close. The stomatopod is a 16 cm juvenile female L. maculata. I caught her as a last stage larva nearly three years ago at Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef. She was established in a deep sand bed satellite tank where she excavated a burrow. I feed her two damsels a week and almost every fish capture has been photographed.

That's awesome. I'd love to see a slow motion video of that.

I'd definitely also like to see.

Dr. Caldwell needs to post more photos and videos to this forum. There is so little traffic in here these days and mantis shrimp are not getting the love they deserve for being such amazing animals.

Post more pics and video!
:D
